Bladeless fan

Hi,

Was looking at a review of the SLI GTX780 vs Titan, and heard Tom saying something about keeping ample room between the cards so they have 'breathing' room. Which is of course good advice, but it started me thinking about the PCI slot in between and if there could be a square fan placed between it on the back end of the pc.

That got me thinking further, have you seen the Dyson Bladeless fans (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/gadgets/home/dyson-bladeless-fan.htm), can we modify that for a pc, instead of having multiple fans, have a setup of something similar with a dust filter in front of it, perhaps some LED lighting around it?

Not sure how to get the working part going in the pc setup, but i guess there are a number of true geeks who can think this out. And, of course, you would need to have a couple of outlets towards different parts of the case. Perhaps also a changed setup for radiators as well.

Just a thought.

Regards and all that,

Grojar

The only problem for a fan like the dyson bladeless is the base unit is quite large and i think it would be a lot of modifications to the internal workings to get it installed if you managed to get the base unit smaller i dont see why the air multiplier cant be adapted. as im not a "true geek" i dont know specifics but i think it is possible the only other issue i can think of is power source and consumption.

IS not fanless there are still blades but as the dip in pressue through the pipes exits near the edge of the fan head, it pretty much drags more air with it. if you could sort the piping out it might not be feasible for act as cooling but maybe to direct air flow towards the GPUs

Sadly, a fan with directional static fins will be much better (Delta PFB/TFB, Silverstone Air Penetrator series, Noctua NF-F12...) I think.

The only positive point for the Bladless Fans is that there is no direct contact possible with fanblades, but noone cares bout that in cases (or people put fanguards). It does quite some noise, so all in all, it has no real value.

Dyson fans actually have a smaller impeller fan in the base of them, which is where they take in the air. The technology is just an implementation of whatever that affect is called. Those fans require open airflow for that effect to exist. Sorry, but you would see no positive effects, since all you would have is a snorkel of sorts, but at that point you might as well do as xploted titan said.
