Bitfenix Shinobi case mod

Test fitting the side panel and PSU.

BeQuiet Dark Power 10, 750w will be far enough for my setup :)

Here you can see my vision better, i wanted to show the PSU, but not the side of it.
Space to the right will be used for water pump and some electric stuff.

A ton of sanding left on the side panel :)

Time to pick up the new "wood".

The wood i bought earlier is to much curved to sand down, i do not have a planer so i will go the easy way, with floor panels, or click-floor as its called.
I get a ready to use wood surface, and maybe top off with some clear coat.

But i have not yet decided wich to get.

The case is going to be dark red metallic like this example

buildup03.JPG

And the front piece how the "wood" will be placed.
The curved sides are really wings, i didnt know how to draw it, they are not solid as shown here.

And.. the three i need to decide about.

Two wood look, one stone look.
Picture in the middle is wood grains, but stained white.
Any suggestions ? :)

If i go on the first one, i probably stain it darker a bit more.

nice color mate
i love the red...

Great suggestions, i was at the store today and looked at them IRL, first one is probably the one i will go for. I get 4 pieces in one box for $30 so i can make a couple of test before i decide wich to use.
Forgot my card at home so i couldnt buy it today, tomorrow i go back and pick the wood up. More time to think about it, :)

Received the components today too, its time for radiator cut out :)
I´m impressed.
German - Sweden, 720 miles - 24 hrs
From the delivery spot to my home, 4 miles - in 72hrs it hasnt moved a inch, got bored to wait for delivery so i drove there to pick it up.

Hmm, where´s the Edit button ? :)
Edit: ah, there it is. I beleive its limited by time...

Question to you out there.

I think about mounting the rad inside the case, and then put the fans outside the case.
Its about 3mm spacing with metal between rad and fans, is this a problem?

If i do this, i will cut open the metal completely for maximum flow and use the metal roof as "tabs" to fasten the radiator to.
Do i also need to put a frame around the fans so the airflow isnt escaping to the sides ?

Or is it the best to cut open the roof completely and make new mounts for the rad and put the fans to the rad ?

Not sure i'm following you correctly, If you mean there's a 3mm air gap between the fans and the body of the rad then yes you will lose a bit of air through that but not too much to worry about. If you really want you could put a rubber gasket in there I guess. With rads it's not so much about airflow, although this is of course important, but more about static pressure, which of course will be reduced with a gap.

could you post some pics to help us understand a bit better

I think i made my explanation more advanced than i needed :)

Look here, radiator inside of the top metal, fans outside. So i can fasten the radiator to something.
But, i cut out the mesh completely.

Measuring from the fan frame to the surface of the rad, 3mm
fan blade to rad. surface is about 6-7mm

I got two rubber fittings for the fans with the radiator, they are about 2mm.

Edit: My second idea was to mount fans to the rad, and then mount the rad on top of the case and just pull down the water tubing.
Going to custom build the top too, so height isnt a issue.

Thanks for the photo and explanation.

The first option will be just fine, and is how a great many rads and fans are attached (including the top rad on my current project.

If you're modding a new top panel then the second option is also fine so I guess it's which ever works best for you. Do be wary of the sort of radius that the tubing will bend to if you're planning to take it up then double it back down.

Be Quiet! is sponsoring the build with PSU and fans, so i will go with their fans on the radiator.
The new Silent Wings 2 are a little different with two types of mounts, none of them really suitable for mounting on a radiator.
So i took one of them, drilled a hole trough it (its only half way) and made a new top to it.
Added bushings between fan and radiator, and also on the bolt, i probably ad a washer too there.

The bolt is to long, so i didnt want to tighten it :)
But, here´s the prototype change of the mount, and its working great!

Well done on your sponsrship.

How come you couldn't just bolt through from the cowling to the corresponding hole in the rad?

I appreciate they have unusual cowlings as I've had a look at a few myself, but aside from a gap where the thread will show between the cowling and the face of the rad , and of course the need to use shorter bolts everything should be fine shouldn't it?

Do be careful with your choice of bolt length mate. Many a radiator has been written off by being punctured by a screw.

A 30mm would normally be about right for a 25mm fan and a bit of depth into the rad. Without any mods i'm guessing you're losing about 8mm oweing to the unusual cowling on the silenet wings.

Keep us posted

Here´s a pic on a standard one.
The hole is half way trough from the bottom, to fit a small screws big large thread to be fastened to the case.
I had to drill all the way trough, then i noticed that the bolt slipped on the curved top.
So i did a new top to it, it may show trough my new case so i need it to be tidy.
It works with a regular washer too i think :)
