Can someone help me here,
I have a band new Asus Max. VI Formula, and I want to Pre check all my components are working properly before installing in the case and update the Bios. I have been on the Asus Support Site - Drivers &Tools ,but i find the information a bit confusing.
Bios : gives this as the latest update.

Description MAXIMUS VI FORMULA BIOS 1402
1. Improve system stability.

2. Support New 4th-Generation Intel Core Processors
3. Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first update the BIOS using USB BIOS flashback, or download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using it.
File Size 5,36 MBytesupdate 2014.03.14
Download from Global
Since I am using a new Intel Core i7 -4770K , according to this I should first update using USB BIOS flashback.
The only reference i find to " flashback" is under BIOS-Utilities:

Version v1.5

Description BIOS updater for New 4th Gen Intel Core Processors
Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool.
File Size 2,11 MBytesupdate 2014.02.21

Version -

Description Bios Renamer for USB BIOS Flashback and Crashfree BIOS 2
1.Put Bios file and Bios renamer in same folder
2.Execute the Utility
3.Use new Bios file for USB BIOS Flashback.
File Size 202,85 KBytesupdate 2012.11.08
Download from Global

Version 1.30

Description Bupdater Utility V1.30 for flash BIOS under DOS.
File Size 39,23 KBytesupdate 2012.02.22
Download from Global

In Version - they are talking about Bios Renamer, which it seems you add to the same folder as the updated Bios file ???

in the MANUAL for the VI Formula they give: BIOS update Utility , USB BIOS Flashback
to use USB Bios Flashback:
1. Download the latest Bios from the Asus website
2. Extract and rename the Bios image file to M6F.CAP
3. Copy M6F.CAP to the root directory of the USB flash disk drive.
4. Turn off the system and insert the USB storage device to the ROG connect port.
5. Press the ROG Connect button and release when a flashing light appears, which indicates that the Bios Flashback function is enabled.
6. Wait until the light goes out, indicating that the Bios updating process is completed.

To be quite honest I am Lost , some of this info seems to be conflicting . But that is probable my misunderstanding.
Anyway I am confused by all of this.
Can someone point clearly the RIGHT direction . Step by step, which version ( obviously Bios 1402 , 2014. 03.14 is the latest update)
And in what order , and do I need to do Bios updater for the new 4th Gen Core Processors Renamer and so forth .
Please give me a clear picture how to proceed . I repeat this is a new Motherboard and Processor and I want to Pre-check my parts before installing in the case and update the Bios.
Thanks a lot

The latest BIOS version should be the one at the top of the list on the website, version 1402. The steps you then want to follow are:

to use USB Bios Flashback:

Hope this helps

Whiskers, thanks for the fast reply. Then I don't have to do anything about the
BIOS updater for New 4th Gen Intel Core Processors
is that correct , just follow the manual

I think you should be fine with a 4770k, I think it's referring to the Haswell refresh CPU's. Just update to the latest BIOS using the BIOS flashback and it should be fine.
