Best Headset For Listening To Music

Hey,

I'm looking for a headset (not a pair of headphones) that sounds great when listening to music. It needs to have a great bass and very good sound quality. Can anyone recommend me a headset? And if people tend to believe that headphones offer a lot higher sound quality than headsets, feel free to let me know one more time before I make up my mind about what headset to buy.

Thanks!

What music do you listen to?

what equipment do you listen on?

Where do you listen to your music, or what scenario will they be used in?

What budget do you have?

1) I listen to all kinds of music. From rock to trance, so I can't really tell you exactly what music I'm into, since it depends.

2) I guess you mean what sound card I'm using? I'm currently using an onboard Realtek High Definition Audio sound card, but if I need a better sound card in order for a headset to sound that much better, then I won't think twice before buying it.

3) I listen to music on my computer.

4) Maximum 200 dollars (I live in Europe, so shopping at Newegg is not possible for me).

Most of us on the forum are from the UK so I'll suggest headphones in the 100GBP range. You could go the audiophile route or the premium DJ route. As you like rock and trance I would get some decent DJ headphones such as:

SHURE SRH750DJ

Audio Technica ATH-M50

Ultrasone HFI-780

Or for the hifi audiophile route the Grado SR60i is a good choice. The DJ headphones will have bags of bass and be well suited to your musical tastes!

Hope this has helped.

Steelseries 7H USB, the USB plug means you won't need a sound card, therefore will save you some money, it's apparently GOOD for music but NOT great, since the bass is more tuned for a Michael Bay movie than a drum solo, but it still does a good job with the music according to the reviews I've read. I can't test them out for you, since all my friends are Razer fanboys. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Razer Megalodon is pretty average for music.

EDIT: Here's a Youtube Review

if after a souncard & headset, how about the Asus xonar xense package?

i've heard good things about the sennheiser pc360 headset too *shrug*

While that is a great value deal, the headset in the Xonar Xense Package is mainly for gaming

So, what do you suggest? I want a headset that is GREAT for gaming, not just good. Should I invest in a pair of headphones and a desktop mic even though the quality of the mic is probably going to be very low? The problem is, while I said the headset should only be for gaming, I'm actually playing video games at a high level. I'm planning on going to lan events in the future and a desktop mic just won't cut it for such events. So either I should keep my current headset for that and just use my headphones at home/on the streets, or I should invest money in a really expensive headset that has GREAT sound quality for music, but it seems like there is no such headset.

Sennheiser PC 360 G4me. That one or the PC 350 G4me

You could get the Asus Xonar Xense bundle that comes with a sound card that has a headphone amplifier so it can properly power the headset... but I reckon that's a bit above your budget.

I myself have a Logitech G35 which is good for gaming and decent for music but the Sennheisers are definitely better.

Well, I want the headset to be great for music and not just "well" or "good" : /

You should really look at some really good headphones (some have already been mentioned in this thread) and just buying a Zalman clip-on mic. That's the way to go if you'll primarily be using them for music!

Ye, this is what I think I'm going to do. The only problem is that I can't have a Zalman clip-on mic or a desktop mic for lans (like competitive lans) :/ But I guess I could just use my current pair of Sennheisers for that, since I'm going to spend them 95% of the time for music. What do you think of this solution?

ye mate that should work if you're okay with using your current sennheisers for lans, if not: Get the PC 360 G4me. It's really good

ok my 3rd mic mod and my best. a detachable mic and a headphone extension cable, some zip ties and: ok i found some cheap parts at dealextreme.com. i ordered these for 5.00 total

DealExtreme: $3.03 Hyundai Soft-Neck Laptop Microphone

DealExtreme: $1.60 3.5mm Audio Extension Cable (1.5M)

now the mic has a 90 degree bend at the plug and u might need 2 extension cables. i tried them and they work fine. u have to get your own zip ties though. this could be done on most headphones that have clearance enough on the yokes for a zip tie
