30dB will be approx twice as loud as 25dB, a gain of 3dB is double the volume as far as I know.

Every 3dB is double the energy but isn't double the volume, the dB scale is not linear it is logarithmic, to match our ears.

Seriosuly, I run a 80mm akasa amber on my downloading rig which I need to be silent, and it is just that, silent :)

You must have gotten lucky, I had 2 x 120mm Ambers (which have now been replaced by Sharkoons) and still have one 80mm Amber on my Evo 33, God awful they are. The 80mm is now the loudest thing in my case.

If you have a chance try some Arctic cooling AC8 or AC12s. They are my favorite for cool looks, low price , very low noise and good airflow.

I think a lot of the fans noise is creted by vibration/harmonics transfered to the case than magnified. The AC fans have their own suspension systems, draw air from the sides and did I mention $5:)

I still vote for Sharkoons.

I finally got around to replacing the Amber on my Evo 33 and the difference between min and max using the controller isn't noticable at all.

Yes but is the airflow still looking good? Really we need a comparison between the favourites...overclock3d hear my prayer :worship:

I'm gonna vote for my Sharkoon 2000 80mms with Blue LEDs.. they look great, have blue LEDs (and versions without them).. so where's the catch? well there is none since they are pretty much inaudible and push a lot more air then an average 80mm.. unless you don't mind noise i would say they are the ones to get for sure
