Best 1000w PSU?

So I plan on Dual Wielding a pair of GTX580's (either the Asus Matrix Platinum or the MSI Lightning...I'm undecided on that atm) but the PSU that was going to go into the build would have been a Corsair AX 850w.

Apparently, 850w is literally just on the edge of supporting an SLI of these cards and that's without an overclock (something I'd be doing with both cards). I won't be going overclock mad with the cards, only an additional 10-15% bump over their stock so I don't think I should need a giant 1200w PSU.

But I'm still pretty new to this.

I was looking at the Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1000w, which fits neatly into my price range (£150~) But I'm not sure whether there are better brands/models.

go corsair my past experiences with the cooler master psu's are they are not very dependable.

Was about to post that. CM makes good cases, not PSUs. I've heard Corsair's warranty and RMA service is excellent. IMO, I wouldn't buy a CM PSU, or an OCZ PSU (certain models are done by OEMs who suck - heard bad things about those units). PSU are something you should never skimp on.

Is there any difference between AX and HX Beyond AX being modular (IIRC)? I do consistently hear good things about Corsair and If I could (ie if my wallet wouldn't weep openly) i'd happily get the AX1200...I just can't justify the price right now >.<

I found the Corsair HX1050 for 151 quid at pc lounge: here's the link

That actually looks pretty damn good! Thank you

My coolermaster 850w is still working since 2008 but i wouldn't purchase again after reading so many articles about the problems people are having with them.

If you can stretch abit more, its worth getting the corsair AX1200, £151 for the HX1050 is great too

The Best 1000W PSU is either the Corsair or Bequiet but both very expensive, the best for the Money and still extremely reliable silent and efficient and also fully modular is the OCZ ZX 1000W, Dont listen to ppl who say its no good.... its an excellent PSU with fantastic feedback, its quiet, efficient [gold] and very reliable just as much as Corsair [just because its not popular doesnt mean its not just as reliable...]

OCZ ZX is the way to go without a doubt, paying even £10 more for the corsiar would be no need, the OCZ is just as good, just as reliable, quieter, and cheaper, and ovcourse fully modular also. Like I said dont listen to people who say no its cr@p buy corsair.... these people probably havent even owned one, look as some reviews and feedback and you will most probably get it, allot better than CM, and just as good as BeQuiet and Corsair without the overpriced cost [the only reason they cost mroe is because of the popularity and their name, get the OCZ]

both good choices. from the reviews i've read the cooler master gold psu's are almost on par with the ax series so you won't be making a bad purchase either way.

I use a CM Silent Pro not the gold version it's the old one.

Still a pretty good and cheap psu.

Had two GTX580 in my system both overclocked to 1000 mhz on the core and a 980X at 4,8 ghz. My peak load was 1356 watt but the power supply had no problem with pulling my setup.

It is the best purchase I have made in a long time.

you pulled 1356watts from a 1000watt PSU? How?

mate i run a 950 at 4ghz + 2 lightnings both at 950mhz, i have had no issues at all

What PSU are you running?

1000w is the continuous power rating they can pull a lot more but i dont think its healthy/stable

That's when you should get a better PSU. Esp. if it's old. 1356W means moving up to a 1.5kW PSU. I'd never pull that much over a PSU. I've had bad luck w/ PSU's so far. Still scared of my old OEM PSUs (2 old Dell)
