Backplate for MSI 780 Gaming

I really enjoy this card but the brown PCB doesn't go well with my black and red theme. I have an XSPC GTX (Titan) backplate that I will eventually use when I save up enough for my full custom WC loop. The 780 Gaming uses the reference Titan PCB so the screw holes line up just fine but the screws included with the backplate are designed for the XSPC Razor WB and are too large for the stock cooler. Anyone have any idea what the screw size is for the stock cooler so I can get longer screws? I think m2.5 x 4 but this is simply a guess. I've asked on the MSI forum but no luck thus far. Thanks

You could remove one of the screws from the stock cooler and take it to a hardware store. Maybe they have a micrometer/calipers and can tell you what thread it is, then get a selection of screws with that thread but slightly longer.

Thanks. It is a sad fact in my area that all the big box stores, Home Depot and Lowes, have forced all the small neighborhood hardware stores out of business. Used to be able to just walk up the street and had a fully stocked hardware store that would certainly be able to do as you suggested. Seems my only option for screws this small is online as I have checked the big box stores and they have nothing close to that small. I have some screws left over from when I put the backplate on my EVGA 680 and these are the same thread but again, those are too short. If anyone knows what size EVGA uses that would work as well.

That's an awful shame. I have a similar problem as well, I have two EVGA backplates I want to put on my graphics cards, but the screws are too short. At some point I'll try find some, but I'd need to wait until I next take apart my loop to put them on anyway so I'm in no rush. Good luck with your search.

I used the evga backplate on the XSPC razor WB on my 680 when I had that card. I bought m3 x 8mm screws that were black with a button head. The stock screws with the razor WB were m3 x 6mm. If you are using the razor wb with the evga backplate and a 680 use the 6mm screws for the 4 that are closest to the gpu as the recessed opening is large enough for the shorter screw heads to fit in. I could not find any m3 screws that had a small enough head to fit the smaller recessed opening for the other screw location on the backplate and thus needed the longer ones to make up the difference. With the black button heads, it still looked good though.

I see you have 580 so I'm not sure if it would be the same for you
