BackDraft Evo (a Nanoxia DS1 Build)

The motherboard itself is matt black with blue accents ;) And yes I'm ditching the red fans.

It looks much better in the flesh

Well it doesn't exactly look bad on the pic either. ;) One thing that sticks a bit out
are the blank metal IO-panel plugs/sockets at the back, but you could always paint
them (plus, pretty much all M/B's have those ugly things).

Well here it is in the flesh :D

I'm biased obviously but I think it just has a certain something to it, it's certainly not an ugly/confused looking board by any means.

The blank metal I/O panel plugs/sockets will fade into the backdrop, the sound card back plate is stainless steel as is the back plate for the 680 so with luck it should all tie in ;)

Unboxing the new fans...

First up the Alpenföhn 120mm Wing Boost Plus PWM

XtMUzmvl.jpg

They use a composite rubberised "V" frame design to further illuminate fan vibration.

Next up the Alpenföhn 140mm Wing Boost Plus PWM

A nice feature of both the 120 and 140 is the dual connection which facilitates running multiple fans daisy chained off a single fan header.

And last but not least...

The Akasa 120mm Piranha high performance PWM air ripper blade

And I ended today by doing some test fitting...

Here are a few tease pics :D

To further enhance the cooling efficiency of the Monsta I've decided to incorporate a 30mm shroud.

This has also allowed me to line up the pump outlet via what will be a gentle tubing curve to feed into the Monsta.

Pretty much as I wanted it

This morning I've assembled what I will refer to from now on as The Cooling Unit lol

Presenting...

1 x AlphaCool Monsta with 30mm shroud, 2 x Akasa Piranhas and to top it off an E22 FG01 240mm fan grill.

It's a mere 135mm deep :D

This is just some OCD kicking in but it would be really nice if you found a way to hide those fan cables/ make them black. Other than that it looks good!

Are those fans well-performing or are they 'all-about-the-looks' fans?

Don't get me started on OCD just yet lol suffice to say they will not be visible when mounted proper.

No the Piranhas are strictly about performance, the fact they are blue is a huge plus; I would say the Piranhas would be the equivalent of PWM GT1850's in terms of actual performance, very very nice bits of kit :D

I've just taken a look at the "Power Unit"

That's epic mate

Love it!!!

Thanks! It's a bit unpractical to mount because I have to mount the components once
the plate is inside the case (can't mount the plate with the pumps and the PSU
bolted to it), but considering my overall build layout I think it's a pretty nice usage
of space. Plus I really like looking right at that gorgeous PSU from the front. :)

Front mounted PSU's are only just starting to filter into case designs, I personally very much like the versatility it affords :D

Not much of an update guys, it's just pretty much to highlight how I've been able to arrange the various inlets/outlets using risers and extension bars to improve the routing of the minimal and point to point tubing I'm incorporating into the build; also as you can see the dual bay XSPC X2O 750 V4 pump/res is relatively shallow in depth.

From top to bottom -

  • Pump/res outlet
  • Pump/res Inlet
  • Rad inlet
  • Rad outlet

Love it when a plan comes together.

Aye but I should have no excuses what with this being in effect a rebuild before it's even built eh sheroo  (PC OCD at it's finest)

I find normally shrouds mess up the look of a rad, but you've done it so well, I take my hat off to you :P

Thank you very much :)

I'm really pleased with how it's turned out :D

Ps. Please note owing to an epic Photobucket fail  (never again), I'm currently in the process of thread maintenance; please bare with me on this guys.
