well my back up rig (some may recall named Pocket Knife to go along with my Switch Blade build) is going to get a major upgrade. The original Pocket Knife was a low end 478 setup. And had undergone some minor/major changes thru the year. But I'm finally settling into the final rendition.

Pocket Knife as last she stood

2GB of ram
3*320 seagate in raid
9600SE gpu
Generic 500watt psu (was way overkill but I had it about)
NZXT Source 210 Elite White
she has dual R4 CM Blue led fans in front and dual NZXT 140mm in the roof and one in the rear exhaust port.Plus another on the side panel.

Unnamed Rig
MSI Big Bang Xpower
Core i7 920
6*2Gb of Corsair Dominator Ram
Noctua NH-L12
NZXT HALE90 750W
2x XFX 5770 in Xfire
Intel 520 180GB ssd
3*320 seagates in raid0
Thermaltake Armor Revo Snow Edition

I know I'll be the butt of alot of jokes (and may be asked to leave the forums :D but I aint going nowhere lol) from y'all here but I got the case and hale for a very decent price as they were review samples (got from same bloke I got my 810 from) plus I like the looks of the Armor Revo Snow. The build should start tomorrow as the case and psu arrive, with possibly the mobo cpu and ram as well. everything else is already on hand. For those unfamiliar with the Thermaltake Armor Revo Snow Edition heres a stock pic of it.

Tom dont hate me for this :)

Arrrrrghhhhh, the case with the turning feet. It is the end of the world, people are turning to Thermaltake'ians. :microwave:

I would say that is a good looking case if those fan mounts were not so exposed on the top, but still, I'm looking forward to what you will do with that thermaltake.

sweet everything is marked as out for delivery for today. SO tonight and tomorrow this should all come together.

The motherboard and Dominator memory look really good. I really like the look of that chipset heatsink.

What do you use your backup rig for?

welp its kinda for when I take down my main for whatever like flushing my loop or tinkering here or there. Plus its also for my roommate (ex-wife(long story)) to use as her personal computer when she doesnt want to use her laptop.

Ah, nice! Well it's always fun to have more than one computer to play around with at once, right? I know that I enjoy it anyway. It's also nice to have more than one set of kit to play around with at once. A backup rig is a nice idea for sure. I suppose you could also use it for dedicated folding too if you wanted.

really nice looking motherboard and ram as I said, I was having a look at the x58 xpower ont he msi site the other day and thinking how it was nice looking and how it doesn't have any "gun stuff" on it like the new x79 one does.

looking forward to seeing more!

Love the look of that Noctua low profile cooler. I recently used one of those in someone's HTPC that was hitting 90'C + and blue screening in the case it was in with the stock cooler. Installed one of those Noctua's and the CPU never hit above 50'C since and it is on 24/7 recording tv/encoding etc

I'm thinking I need to reseat it. Hitting 50c idle at 3.6Ghz @ 1.15 volts already see it fails for anything over 1.2 volts lol was priming at 4.2Ghz @1.25volts and it was hitting 90 within 2 mins.

Definitely doesn't sound right. I haven't tried one of these on an i7-920, but I know that my old 920 could do 4.0ghz at 1.27V or so and the temps barely got above 60-65C with the D14.

The CPU that I used this cooler on was the i5 just under the 2500, the 2400 and it was not getting above 50'C under a full load at stock speed/volts in a small HTPC case on a shelf with not much airflow, so I know it is a great little cooler.
