is there FREE program that I can convert an AVI file to a format i can record onto a DVD and play it on my DVD player so i can watch it on the TV????

not too sure if there are, your best bet is to google. If you do end up having to buy one, i'd go for nero (it has nero recode built in).

if this is LEGAL advice then i suggest you post it in this thread. If it isn't legal then familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions and refrain from doing this in the future.

let us know if what you sent wasnt entirely legal please

Theres a few programs out there.

The normal DVD format is the .VOB file. Google AVI to VOB and you'll get a million.

One i used too use was called winAVI i think. Did loads of conversions.

The BEST program out there is Adobe Encore. See if you can find a 30 day trial and that'll do ya, unless you wanna pay through the nose...

You can Transencode with VLC Player, i use a little batch file to convert anything to WMV for the 360 to play.

Heres an example

"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc" -vvv %1 --sout-ffmpeg-qscale 1 :sout=#transcode{vcodec=WMV2,scale=1,acodec=wma,ab=96,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=asf,dst=%1.wmv}}

You could try DVDSanta, i do belive this will take anything > DVD format
