ATI Catalyst 7.8 Out!

Anyone else installed these? I went from the 7.4 officials to the 7.7 officials and lost 20fps on the CS:S stress test, and the 7.8 officials perform the same as the 7.7's for me. Ive got a Sapphire X1900XT 256mb. Are these drivers mainly for the 2600/2900 series?

Even as a non ATi person I would say yes. It`s very seldom that ATi or nVidia look to improve on things outside of their immediate releases. They`ll "support" older cards, but I wouldn`t expect great steps from new drivers.

Rule I often think of is to use drivers from the release of u`r card to maybe 6 months after. Unless there`s a big event like a Dx release.

I went to 7.8 from 7.7 on my X1950 and no noticeable improvements however no problems at all.

Just like to keep up to date.

Ye same as me, although i forgot to say ocing seems more stable on the 7.7 and 7.8, as I am ocing as much as the drivers will allow. Is there anyway to up this without using ATI Tool/Rivatuner etc?

I am using catalyst 7.2's atm on my x1900xt

Is there much point in upgrading? I think last time I upgraded I had problems disabling specular lighting in cs:s aswell as getting texture corruption
