ASUS Z97 Pro vs Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1

Could someone help me with the comparison? I am giving a link to a comparison table with both motherboards but I really don't know if there is anything that stands out there. The CPU power phases at most maybe?

The difference is about $60 and with the Mark 1 you only pay for the cool looking cover plate?

One more question. All around I see people disappointed with the Z97 Deluxe. Why is that?

Just buy the one you want. Your CPU will hit a wall before your mobo won't allow it to move on any further.

Are you saying that only because of the Z97 chipset?
On the net people say some motherboards with Z97 are better and some are... well less suitable for OC.

Well if you buy bottom of the line board don't expect to OC it. All the ones worth buying or ones geard toward gamers will all OC about the same. Your cpu will not be able to make the board choke and give up. z77/87/97 boards/cpus are are like this.

From what I understood, the pro/deluxe series were catered for the mainstream enthusiasts. Sabertooth were designed for longevity with high grade components built to last and the RoG were aimed at the gamer/OC market.

My Sabertooth P67/Z77 never overclocked as well as my Z77 V-Pro, but the Pro board was faulty for me so I stuck with my sabertooth.

If the Pro/Deluxe motherboards don't overclock the way I want to, maybe I will go for the Mark 1 then. From the signature that Dicehunter has I read he overclocked his 4790K up to 4.80GHZ on the Sabertooth.

It depends more on the CPU then the motherboard. Each cpu will clock differently.

Agree,

But in my case where I used the same CPU for both boards. My OC on the V-Pro board was 4.6Ghz whereas on the Sabertooth I managed 4.4Ghz. And I also needed more volts on the sabertooth to achieve stability. Odd but true. Maybe it was the 16 phase power design on the V-Pro that helped?

Well, the CPU is the i7-4770k. But like Warchild says, does it matter if there are more CPU power phases?

ASUS Z97 Pro - 12 power phases
Sabertooth Mark 1 - 8 power phases.

It shouldn't if you get 4,8k GHz on the Sabertooth. So it simply depends on the CPU?

If the CPU is a poor overclocker it doesn't matter about what board you'll get, you won't get a high clock.

Not really, Tom got an excellent 4770k
Now if someone is brave enough to delidd their off the shelf 4770k the CPU should properly overclock like a 4790k
