We finally see a non-reference R9 290X. All the performance of the 290X with a lot more cooling, and a lot less noise!

I have the 280x DCUII and well, I'd really like it if Asus could release the sticker pack as a separate thing as my blue rig is ruined with those red stickers (to some extent).
Makes me wonder how nVidia will respond, will we see a GTX 790 or GTX 780Ti Boost edition? I'm just loving the to and fro that's been going on since the 290/290X launched. ^_^The ASUS card performed better than the GTX 780 Ti in Bioshock Infinite and Crysis 3 while the GTX 780 Ti's only definitive victory came in Battlefield 3. In the three other games tested, the cards were so close that I'll call it a performance tie.
The guys on the PcPer podcast were half joking if the debacle with the reference cooler on the 290 and 290X was deliberate on AMD's part just to mess with nVidia, since they kind of rushed out the 780Ti in response.
Sure enough, reviews so-far have the non-reference 290X's competing quite effectively with the 780Ti, which gives them a large advantage considering they're quite a bit cheaper. That's assuming they're priced how they're reportedly going to be priced though.

Yeah the delta is far bigger in USD than GBP it seems; $20 over the reference 290X according to HERE.Asus is £499.....
I think I'd leave the stickers off I like the clean look and I like ASUS DCU coolers
The reviews done so-far have the custom 290X's trading blows with the 780Ti, for less money aswell. As much as it won't stop me buying a pair of 780Tis, I really hope that this gives it a solid run for its money - seeing Nvidia scared and having to drop prices would be rather nice![]()
In the US the 780ti cost about $720 while the Asus card will cost about $650. It used to be about $600 flat but with litcoin becoming super popular the AMD camp has had a price increase. So as of now $70 plus with BF4 free equals a big win for AMD. I couldn't justify the price increase for no performance gain.
You forget that 780ti comes with Splinter Cell, AC 4 and Batman Origins. That makes up for any difference in price if there will be any in the first place. Also you say 720$ vs 650$, it will probably be 700$ vs 700$.
at 499 i think you might as well get the gtx780ti, used to love AMD for price v performance but i am now leaning towards Nvidia. AMD have shot themselves in the foot.
