Asus P6T Audio Problem

so i built my new pc alone, and it was my first time, so anything could have gone wrong, but here i don't see what could be the problem.

i'm using speakers, headphones and a separate microphone.

the headphones and speakers work (on-board audio that is) yet the mic doesn't, no matter which port i put it in, rear or front.

also, i did have a creative Audigy sound card installed for a few days (gonna return it though) and with it the headphones and speakers also worked, but again the mic didn't.

so i'm stuck, any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in Advance :wavey:

Gonna sound obvious here, but the mic doesn't go in the front or rear, it goes in the mic port.

If neither the P6T or Audigy worked, then either you've plugged it into the wrong place twice, or your mic is muted in the control panel. Or it's broken.

thanks for pointing out the obvious :)

but of course i pluged it in the mic port, there are just two, one in front and one in the back.

and i tried it on a different computer and it worked.

i didn't format my hard drive when i installed all the new hardware, so i might be getting some driver related issues, cuz when i use my creative Fatal1ty headset, with a built in sound card and audio driver (connects via usb) the mic on it works.

i'll report back with my findings.

Got to say this sounds like a software thing. Have you checked the sound input is set to mic not line in?

I don't know what it will be in, try the software that came with the sound card. Apologies if this doesn't help, just in my case with the xonar d2x this was what sorted in for me.

Given the fact that it was your first build, there is a good chance that your audio jumpers are not set to the correct pins. I'm on my fourth build and still get it wrong. Cross reference your motherboard manual with your case pin/jumper layout to make sure you have it set up properly. Also, some audio components can be enabled/disabled in the bios.
