Asus Geforce GTX 1070 Strix problem

hi guys,
just got a geforce gtx 1070 strix 08G gaming and installed it on my asus rampage v extreme and turned on the system but the system would not boot.
there is led lights on the motherboard and the white light on the graphic card but the system would not boot
i removed it and plugged back my old quadro 600 and bang the system booted and started and everything was fine
so again i plugged back the new 1070 on the motherboard and it would not boot up
what is the problem, what should i do...please help... have spend $ 492 to get this new card and waited for 1.5 months to get it and its not working
 
First thing on my mind, have you made sure that all the cables are connected properly etc?...
 
yes the cables are connected properly i checked it twice and made sure every connection was proper.... anything else i need to check...
 
some light on the issue

also to put some more light on the issue i have coolermaster V850 psu
i have 3 cables indicatinf PCI-E (6+2 pin)on one end and PSU (6 pin) on the other.
i think i used another cable to power the graphic card and the ones mentioning PCI-E so i might have gone wrong there, what do you suggest should i check with this cable and see if the rig powers up....
 
Check the monitor connections to the card.

I recently added a 2nd card to my PC but forgot to connect the screens up, but I noticed that the card's light's came on but the PC wouldn't boot.

It might be the issue your having but then again maybe not, but just a thought.

By what you are saying, I can only assume you have used a CPU 4+4 connector instead of a PCIe connector. Which if i remember correctly will fit in a GPU 8 pin but a GPU 8 pin wouldn't fit in a CPU 8 pin.

If this is the case then yes it wouldn't work in a GPU, but be aware that the pin layout is completely different and supplies 12v across all 4 top pins which are predominantly grounds on a PCIe connector. Could potentially cause damage to the card if there is no protection on the card and board.

Try the PCIe connector and let us know what happens.

as you said i was using the cpu to psu pins.
i will surely do the check with PCI-E cables tomorrow morning and let you know if it works...

guys voila.... i changed and put the correct cables and it worked... it was my bad... in excitement i put wrong cables and it didnt work, but now everything is fine and running...
thanks guys once again....

Wow so a 4+4 actually fits an 8 pin PCIE?

I know a proper 8 pin single plug doesn't because I was sent a EPS splitter once (I ordered a 8 pin PCIE splitter) and spent all day braiding it only to find they don't fit :D

I always check before starting the braiding now lol.
 
yes the 4+4 pin fitted but it didnt work so had to use 6+2 pin and also it was my bad that i didnt see the markings as it was written clearly PCI-E on the cables and i like a mad excited man used CPU to PSU cables...finally good to see that it worked changing the right cables
