Assassin and sniper difference

SO what are the differences between the G1 Assassin and Sniper?

In a everyday use with a single gtx590 what is the difference? I mean it looks like there might be a lot. At first glance on the board it looks like the built in sound card and built in killer Ethernet has more capacitors etc on the assassin. Or is that just because it needs another 200 chip for the 4 way SLI capability's? Another thing there are two 8 pin adaptors for the CPU power. Just for extreme overclockers who use dried ice etc correct?

I was wanting to know because i love the size and look of the assassin but if there is no difference i wont go and get it.. But it doesnt bother me its more for bragging and looks really xD. just wanted to know others imput

Assassin is XL-ATX, Sniper is ATX.

Assassin has more PCI-E slots, Sniper has fewer PCI-E slots.

You'd be better off getting the Sniper, compatible with more cases and you won't need the extra PCI-E slots as you won't be doing SLI with anything more than 2 590s.

Isnt there a difference in the sound chips used?

Thats what i was thinking but both boards claim the same sound chips used. But if you clearly look along the sides of both under where all the I/O's are you can see to the left of the x16 slots there are considerably a lot more and better looking then on the sniper.

I was thinking that but i am getting an 800d case. This would fit in the case correct? I wouldnt be able to use 4 way sli but it would fit correct? I just love the look of the assassin over the sniper. Its not much more with my budget but i wouldnt have to spend it lol. On another hand the assassin just looks more pleasing then the sniper but doesnt bother me really.

Ok it looks the the G1 guerilla is the one that uses a different audio chip (Realtek). The guerilla is the lowest end, but still does 16x/16x/8x

Haha yes it is a very nice budget board. But im looking at the sniper and assassin. I really just want the assassin because it just looks pleasing. But was making sure there wasnt much of a difference

I would hardly call $350 bucks a budget board lol. The guerrilla looks identical to the assassin and sniper. BUT if your an audiophile, I would go for one of the upper 2. You have to figure a decent sound card will cost ya a bill anyway. Just my 2 cents...or quid...whatever you guys call it

800d doesn't fit XL-ATX I'm afraid.

Oh she'll fit in
wink.gif
, But of course i cant use 4 way sli xD. Well of course i could... But would take some modding

. And i would prob take away what makes the 800d an 800d

, so not worth it. But as im not using 4 cards i could go with the assassin

True, I assume your watercooling or you already have the 800d?

If not you're better off getting a different case anyway.

As of now i am watercooling. Just CPU though as i will not be pushing the 590 hard as of now. XSPC RS 360 rad. EK HF waterblock etc.. And thats where i was wondering the difference. I see on the assassin there is an aditional heat sink for the mosfet cooling for the 16 phase power. But that wouldnt make a difference in OC'ing vs the sniper would it? Since it is for the other 8 phases extra you get if you were using DRY ice or something correct?

Yeah the extra 8 pin is for people who are trying to get every last scrap out of their set up so it would probably only be used for a dedicated benching setup.

The Assassin will NOT fit in the 800D - its a crappy case anyways imho.

quad sli is pointless too.

Toms right there boy and girls the 800D is only a 7slot case Motherboard Compatibility ATX, mATX, EATX

the assassin while only having 7 slots is XL-ATX because they spaced them down abit it needs a 9 slot case

A breakdown of the differences can be seen here:

G1-series

USB ports vary greatly,as does the power phase layout.

Also the assasin has 4 way sli, whereas the sniper has 3 way sli.

The sata ports vary also.

Nice boards, but a little pricey,i guess the killer nic is what your paying out for,as they've never been cheap, but nice to see them making an entrance onto mobo's.

Trust me a case is just a box. The only difference between it fitting and not is drilling out some wholes and then cutting out the plate that divides the PSU and the other components of your system. A buddy of mine did it with an old EVGA 4way sli class board. Same concept. And plus it opens the case up some for better airflow

. You just got to look outside the box. The 800d is a HUGE open plain of possibility just like some other cases

yeah one could do that but why take an almost 300$ case and cut it up ( I shouldnt be saying that lol I've done it) (but different reasons) anywho when there are BETTER cases that will handle it without the mods cause you'd still have to address the pisspoor airflow it already has just my 2p's
