ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M and 2700k Unstable at Stock?!

Hi there,

Run out of ideas and sanity. I bought a ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M Motherboard and a BitFenix Prodigy M Case (Awesome case btw) After having a 2700k for two years previously in a old Gigabyte Z68 Board.

So this is the confusing bit. I installed everything correctly and even with no modifications running an Intel Burn Test the system will BSOD with either CLOCK_WATCHDOG_ERROR or WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR this comfused the hell out of me so i took apart the machine and practically rebuilt it thinking that I'd perhaps missed something re-pasted the CPU but no same thing. Overclocking unbelievably sort of helps the issue. The Intel Turbo does not work at all so I just manually set the Ratio to 3.9GHz with a Vcore of +0.100 and the system is stable and runs well. This is also how i'm writing this message. Now some would say ah, issue solved. Well no I'd like to know why a board I paid £125 for is doing this and why I cant go over 4GHz overclocking... In the gigabyte board I had this CPU running at 4.7GHz no problem at all.

If any of you could restore my sanity and stop me sending this board back with a massive **** you letter because it was a week and a half late due to Christmas shipping...

I'm open to trying anything...

Thanks in advance for your assistance and apologies if this is in the wrong board.

Vdroop on them is utterly shocking matey - you are probably going to have to set things manually and not leave things on auto

Is the BIOS updated? (I know it might be but I'm asking anyway)

I've checked that I'm on the latest.

It would certainly seem so, I've got it running stable at 1.3 Vcore at 3.9GHz which is just poor with the watercooler I have. Is there any chance of me being able to go further without it bloody BSOD'ing?

Not a question I can answer from here dude. 1.3v is a lot though and you should be looking at vdroop under load (use OCCT and CPUZ) I have stated this in the overclocking guide and you should be following that

If i could possibly chuck you £200 to sort it that would great haha!

But I have followed your guide to the letter and got it 'Stable' at 4.2GHz now. But and this is a big one. There seems to be some thermal throttling going on while running prime. I can't understand why because 50-60 degrees is a good temperature for 100% 4.2GHz?
