Artifacting @ stock

Erm because it may be too hot. ;) Hell, my 8800 GTS (640mb version) idled at around 58 deg C and at load was in the mid-high 70's (@ stock). Overclocking the card made things even more interesting, until I put it under water. I'd be checking your gfx cards TIM and perhaps clean it off and re-seat it. What are your ambient temps?

amiebt temps of 20 casa about 27

How in gods name are you getting those temps?

Mine is overclocked to 600/2000 and it doesn't go above 65oC... :eh:

let show 3d view in ATI tool for about 15 min

it s a good warm up then run artifact tool scan

sry but had to post here instead of opening new thread , im running a stability test for my oc , and using RTHDRIBL i get worrying temps of 90 load is that excessive , i went to touch the pcb of the video card and god damn it was blistering hot :( is it safe but since the slowdown temp is 125?

well the tim is actually like white pads between the cooler and the card its self , they look like dry and hard chewing gum that has cracked

Something has to be up sink-wize.

Last time I noticed something like this, the fan on the sink had stopped.

Could be something similar or the sink has prised itself away from the gpu for some reason.

well i dunno fan seems running , ill take it out for a look after i get my schyte infinity to replace my arctic freezer 7 pro

Yep it's total crap TIM tbh. This is what it looks like

get.php

I'd be checking the TIM and replacing it

I think I know where u`r coming from now, the stuff they use is like those thermal pad strips u can get and u can cut it off in squares as u choose.

Something u`d use if u only wanted to cool something half-heartedly, hard drive or something, memory perhaps - more ddr than ddr2 tho.

A good waterblock will keep it significantly cooler and increase your overclock. Just make sure that your radiator is up to handling the increased heat dump into your loop.

so i remove those white things and put normal thermal paste like i use in the cpu?
The white and grey thermal paste will need to be removed, and the GPU/RAM/HD chip and MOSFET's thoroughly cleaned. Apply Arctic Ceramique to RAM/MOSFET's/HD chip and GPU, and then reinstall heatsink.

My 7800gt recently started to overheat for no reason. I didn't get artifacts - just CSS crashes . The card was hitting temps of 90-100 degrees . I hope I haven't done any damage to it. Must have been the paste on the cooler going bad or something :eh:.

Anyway, I took the standard noisy cooler off (sticky pads on mine were crappy too) and put one of these on. Nice and quiet now and temps of about 40-50. Incredibly easy to install too compared to the Zalman one I installed on my 6600gt.

hmm thanks , currently i have a prob with my psu , my mom accidentilay switched off from the socket and now , not even the standby led is on on the mobo , 100% psu dead , great way of spending lm 88 on a psu and then it dies , i hope nothing else has died :( :( :( :(

i will sort out the video card after this is sorted , thanx for the tips
