Are there any dis-advantages to Over Clocking?

Hey there....this question has been on my mind for a while and I googled it and I found no draw-backs to OC'ing. I always assumed that because you push whatever hardware you are OC'ing that it meant more performance but its operational life would be significantly reduced. Is this true and are there any other dis-advantages?

Heat is the biggest worry. If you control the heat with proper cooling you won't damage anything or shorten it's life as long as you stay within safe voltages.

most CPUs have a thermal cut off nowadays so if it gets too hot it will shut down your PC but thats not to say it wont damage it in the process

So as long as the OC is stable and well cooled there is no reason not to OC!!!!!

This is pretty much true. I say pretty much because by the time you ever figured out if the overclock had shortened the lifespan the product would be woefully outdated.

Overclocking technically voids your warranty, but I don't think manufactures can actually find out if you have overclocked.

EDIT: Just don't say, yeah my CPU exploded when I tried to get overclock it to 6GHz and you'll be fine

exactly what hmmblah says. Pretty much just keep it cool, and dont fry it and you're ok.
