Apple Putting The Lock Back On Unlocked iPhones

Meh, it`ll take some bright-spark a few hours of messing about to figure out how to re-unlock it afterwards. Around a day or so later it`ll be all over the net as unlock v2 or summit.

Not sure why they bother tbh.

Having said that, I view the re-locking as a side effect of the upgrade and not especially put out there to lock them again.

They shouldnt have locked it in the first place. I hate Cingular and will not change for a phone. With the unlocked phones, it meant i could have Verizon and not change over.

its not apples fault other than making it being able to be hacked/unlocked. ATT paid a massive amount to get the license to the iphone. ATT does not make a penny when they sell the iphone other than the pure service. Apple just had to implement this to keep that agreement for ATT, im more than sure that it will be unlocked for all service providers within a half a year or so. But then again they will probably have rev.2 by then.

this is why i'm more and more tempted to get an HTC touch

whats a HTC touch?

tbh, i'm not that fussed about them being locked to a network as O2 is about the best in the UK anyway.

HTC touch is basically an iPhone rip (no matter WHAT HTC say :P)

however - i have an HTC universal atm (more commonly known as.......imate jasjar)

heres the website for the touch:

sure theres a coupla downfalls but meh - better than getting an apple iphone...(i personally haven't seen either phone face to face - before i buy the touch i'll be looking and testing it first)

Those are nice, i know someone who has one very swish :D

Im on Vodafone, they're just as good as O2 have ever been. T-Mobile customer services are a bit crap, so i left them.

Well Verizon is alot better than ATT here in the states and i really "wanted" the Iphone. And if ATT isnt making anything off of it, then its pointless kinda. Cause i know alot of people who returned their Iphones and switched services. I can think of at least 20 people here in my metroplex i know alone. Apple would get alot more money if they went for all services. IMO its sorta like a monopoly to just go for one service.

I would totally buy the iPhone if it wasn't locked to ATT. I am also a Verizon user like PP. ATT service in my area is horrible. If the iPhone wasn't locked I would definitely buy it as I need a new ipod as well :p

See thats my thing. I get better service and reception than any ATT customer in my neck of the woods. Since they where unlocked i thought we had a good chance of being able to get an Iphone on Verizon. Now they are re locked my hopes are little to none. Ill prolly wind up getting a Razr2.

i just updated mine, h/e u are right you dont need to update it, and thus you wont get it locked up again, and im sure thats what alot of people are doing.

just dont update it through itunes. then you should be more than fine, it would suck if they sent the update via wireless through the internet thou which i doubt they would do, its over a 120 mb file to d/l, and i was surprised that it didnt take up any more space.
