:p Well basicly i have a 200GB External HDD and ... while it was copying some stuff to the laptop, i decided to use the kick-out footrest on the sofa... lets say the HDD went flying :)... and now it dosn't read, windows just says unrecognised usb device.

Anything i can do to recover the data, get it working again?

most likly not, but thought best to ask before i bin the thing!

Could be your USB connection thats u/s you could always remove the drive from its casing and connect direct to ide or sata (whichever it is)

Could be the connection inside the external case has come loose, or maybe the hardware in the case (but not the drive) is broken.

Connecting it directly as chudley says is probably the best way to find out, it will also allow you to run diagnostics on the drive.

The other possibility is you broke the USB socket on the laptop...

I`d not think of disposing of it. Especially in a casing, drives are fairly robust in terms of short falls. (between u & me, engineers drop them on desks to get some to work again >.< but I never said that) I`d bank on some kind of internal cable movement or something, or a damaged port.

Took it out and put it in my pc, when it was connected as as secondary drive, the pc wldnt load =/, and when it was the only drive connected the bios didnt read any hdds.

oh yea it flew about 3m and hit a wall.. lol

not this time :), ill just keep the external hdd case, and throw the hdd out i guess =/.

So glad i didnt format before i did this ><
