I am also about to build my first gaming computer what do you think of the following? Any suggestions, I'm trying to keep this build under $800

Haha yes I'll be shopping at newegg and the rig would be used for gaming for my 16 year old son but I also want him to be able to do schoolwork etc. As for upgrading I won't be doing that until a few years later unless necessary.

The only things i would change about this is, first the motherboard, stick with ASRock but change the chipset to z77 instead of h77! The hdd i would change to a Seagate Barracuda 1TB, plenty of storage plus supper fast for a hdd, and cheap! And finally the PSU, stick with corsair but go to the CX 500w, 600 w is overkill for that!! If you buy it all form Newegg it comes to $807.93, but thats not including $35 in mail-in rebates, so essentially its $772.93!! And with that you son will be able to all the gaming he wants along with all of the school work he doesn't want to do :biggrin:

Here is one for $822 after rebates and such. I used a Phenom II X4 965 because it's dirt cheap. I stuck a $20 heat sink which is one of the best and will let you put a solid overclock on it and that 965 up around 3.8 Ghz is still a very capable gaming chip. But basically, it's cheap and let's you spend more on the GPU which is what's most important and it'll play everything at 1920x1080 at max or very near max settings.

I used a very good motherboard that'll do dual video cards, has 8+2 power control and I'd AM3+ so when AMD's new processors come out next year you'll be able to upgrade easily and just drop one in with nothing more than a BIOS update so you have a lot of upgrade room.

Its called Nightly, its a less stable, more up to date and customizable version of firefox, it also is very light weight, only uses 200,000 - 300,000k of memory. But its got a custom user style that i coded, im a minimalistic guy when it comes to my desktop and theme!!
