Any guides on a molex to 3 pin 5v?

Pretty much in the title, can any one tell me or show me a guide of this being done as I'm not quite sure on how to do this myself. I have a few spare molex plugs with all 4 pins and lots of extra fan header connections.

Any help will be appreciated .

Might be best to take pictures of exactly what you have.

Take a look at these:

It might be easier to try and copy one of those than for someone to write a guide for it.

So you know - the 4pins on molex cables go:
12v - Ground - Ground - 5v

12v + Ground = 12v
5v + Ground = 5v
12v + 5v = 7v

I just thought I'd add for clarity that 12V is the yellow cable and 5V is the red one in the standard format, and of course both blacks are ground. If you have entirely black cables then 12V should be indicated by a small 1 on the plastic housing of the molex connector, indicating that it is pin 1; pins 2 and 3 are ground, then pin 4 is 5V.

Thanks for clearing up about the black cables, I was starting to worry tbh :lol:. I've taken some puctures and thought I'd add that I have off cuts from some Arctic cooling fans so the 4 pins are actually 4 pin, byt i can just cut off the extra wires can't I?

Yeah the extra two are just the Sense and PWM pins for the PWM fan, so as long as you're happy not having a PWM option, you can just remove them

Edit: The Sense and PWM cables are the yellow and blue IIRC, but maybe check that first because I may have misremembered.

Yep, I just did a test using one of them hooked up to the molex. Will post pictures in about 20 minutes when I'm done with the final results.

found out the hard way a 8+6 pin gpu doesn't work with 2*6pin extentions as pin 4 needs to be grounded for device manager to see the cards

Yeah pins 4 & 6 on the 8Pin PCI are sensor lines.

Thanks mate, thankfully I dont need to go and pay £10 for some 5v cables now .
