AMD Stock fan problem

Hello there everyone, i want to start out by saying that my H100 will be here tomorrow so this is not so much a problem, more out of curiosity.

So I've got my stock heatsink on my Phenom II X4, and the fan runs at insane speeds (read over 7000RPM!!)

even when running idle its recording my fans RPM to 4300RPM, Im not sure if this is a sensor issue or whats going on but when its running its actually vibrating my entire table, and the sound when running at those 7k speeds, it can be easily heard through a Logitech G35 headset while playing Battlefield 3 on fairly high volume.

Has anyone else experience anything like this?

most likely a sensor issue lol 7000rpm is way fast and i doubt that lil 80mm fan can handle it.

Thats what am think too, but it just seems that the sound and vibrating kind of backups the sensor.

i forgot to mention, its inside of a Fractal R3 so the case even has sound dampening.

lol stock fans are loud and obnoxious they sound like 10k rpm but only do about 3500 iirc

Either you need to enable cpu and chassis fan control from within the bios or the heatsink is not seated properly.

Mine used to run at about 2200rpm with Qfan in silent mode.

With no fan control and while at idle, most stock AMD fans will do 2800-3400 rpm, in a cool and well ventilated case.

Try a different video card. If your current one has heat and/or voltage issues, it maybe frying your cpu. lol

With my old 9800gt in the 1st pcie slot, the cpu fan would hit 5000rpm just sitting on the desktop. heh.. I eventually RMA'd it and XFX confirmed that it was over heating/volting the cpu/nb.

heh wierd, this started long after i got my new graphics card, but before i started overclocking it, so i doubt it is the reason, tho i just received my H100 so i dont really care that much

If the heat is bad enough you risk warping the mobo and will eventually fry the cpu and/or the socket.

I would seriously consider RMA'ing the card.

pEACe

Which card may i ask? i have nothing overheating in there its just running really fast (it seems)

opened up my H100 and a lot of the fins were severely deformed so i RMA'd it

The video card. lol

Either it and/or your cpu is overheating, or your gpu is causing the NB/cpu to heat up.

What are your temps ?

i got my graphics card running @ 1150mV, 920MHz 1350MHz, idles at 36'ish and full load is maximum at 71 but average is about 64

my CPU is running @ 3.60GHz, idles at 30 - 40'ish and full load its 61.

i wouldn't say that it is overheating

Tried putting my old 9500GT in there but it did nothing to the RPM, must be a faulty sensor or something, going to install my H100 when i wake up again and the problem will be over
