AMD Ryzen Block Orientation

I was curious the best way to mount a custom block on the Ryzen. I referenced this vid below. Most likely in order to get the best cooling results, mount you block with an up and down orientation instead of side to side.

This was shown to give benefits on Intel X79 and X99 systems when it was tested.

I will be curious to find out if someone finds anything else different.

It doesn't make any difference dude. Some one has already done it (derbauer? der8auer? something like that).

Depending on your custom block, it can make a small difference depending on surface area of the water flow in the block. I used his vid as a reference on core direction while in the board. He ran bare die cooling. That was 2C. If I can pick up a free 2C difference just on block mounting, I would be happy.

I always mount my CPU block so that it looks right. For the possible sake of 1-2c difference, ill take aesthetics every time

It's super hard to do though man. I remember watching this guy once who had a Mac Pro (huge alu one) and he wanted to go from dual quad cores to dual hex cores and found out that in the model he had Apple used delidded CPUs lol.

He basically shaved off the solder using a Stanley blade

Terrifying stuff to watch, and you need a jeweller's hand tbh. He did get it done though, with no casualties IIRC. Not something I would try though

Did he? haha damn man. Probably lucky that they weren't terribly expensive !

on this, if 1-2c is going to make the difference between safe / unsafe temps, you aren't running enough rad space anyway.
