AMD 64 Motherboard Advice

personally i would go with the 2.0 1mb one, because you can overclock it later anyway, you can't overclock L2 cache back up to 1mb ;)

Thats what I thought, I think I may be OC'ing the nuts (as much as I can on expensive air cooling till I can afford Water) off of this CPU so just waiting for this RMA to go through! Damn the Easter hols (but then bless them for me not being at work - ahhhhh) and then I will be pur-chasing myself some nice new hardware!

lol

That one at novatech does not have 1MB L2 cache - its a Newcastle, read the browser header and the description :p Its 512K L2, just like the other one.

You will be hard pushed to find a Clawhammer for sale in the UK. They are everywhere in America, but over here I only know of a couple of places that stock them, and they are way out of your budget :(

Yeah, but everywhere else it says 1MB, so they lie! They must be whipped :awhip: and shot :smileysho

But one thing that confuses me, it also says that it's 2.0GHz, and I thought only the clawhammers were 2ghz? Maybe they got the newcastle bit wrong :D

I've called Novatech and they are about as useful as a chocolate Teapot.

They told me that the manufactorer checks the specs for them, and they basically don't know which CPU it is.

I tried to find the processor on here:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9485_9487^10248,00.html

But the Manufactorers code on Novatech's website is: ADA3200AXBOX

This I think is a PIB (processor in a box) code. The only PIB's that AMD do according to that page above is the 3200+ 1mb l2 cache, 2GHz one. But that's only as far as I can see :D

And I forgot to say: The LAN Party doesn't have dual rate DDR, which is a bit irratating!

I can't be arsed with all this confusion :) Might just get a 3200+ Winnie and that gigabyte board (cue abuse) :moon:

at least you tried ;)

skt754 does not support dual channel RAM full stop, its not just the Lanparty. But this is not a bad thing, the performance difference you would see between dual and single channel, well, you wouldn't see it. There is barely any difference.

It's a 5% difference which equates to an unnoticable real world amounts and only minor point differences when benchmarking.
