AMD 64 Motherboard Advice

They got some nice nforce3 boards. The best are epox and gigabyte[/B']. epox might be better to go with for ocing though. The EP-9NDA3J seems to be a good budget board with some nice ocing.

eh? The Lanparty is consistently the best skt754 motherboard out there. Gigabyte and Epox can't touch it.

Abit AV8 is an amazing motherboard to have, speaking from experience :D just wish I hadn't burnt it out the other day. But yeah, AMD64, S939, will support your RAM no problem.... and the BIOS features are very extensive, lots to tweak and play with.

he's on a budget. dfi's are in the ripoff range for my spending.

Thanks for all your help on this guys and gals.

I have decided to splurge a little bit more and get a 3500+ winnie core chip.....ahhh, too tempting by far. :p

Am currently debating eithe the gigabyte mentioned earlier (see here or one of these two: Asus A8V or the Abit AV8.

Just can't decide as I have an nVidia card which reputedly runs nice off of the nforce chipset, or to go with VIA. Al three are about the same price wherever I look, so choices choices!

I may be OC'ing a bit, but only once I've undertaken some Water Cooling which is a few months away. Basicaly speaking, the system (well CPU and mem) will be left stock for a while, then OC'd at a later date, so I want bang for my buck, with potential later on......I dunno :(

I can vouch an AV8 over an A8V, too. The two boards are almost identical performance wise, but AV8 has more in terms of features... and "potential", lol.

Just from personal experience u may want to take this advice into consideration... The 3500+ Winnies don't overclock for shit. If you're dead set on getting a Winnie get a 3000+ or a 3200+ as they have a LOT more potential. I started with a 3500+ and it sucked, and so did everyone elses that I knew so I dumped it for the 3000+ and I had no problem getting it to 2.7ghz.

Also, if ur set on getting a 3500+ I may suggest to you the new 3500+ Clawhammer, that's a super overclocker and currently less expensive than the Winnie!

Excuse me - the Lanparty NF3 is dirt cheap. Gigabyte have boards more expensive than that.

And agree with fragtek, the 3200+ Winchester will do better than 3500+. I don't see the point in you going 939 either. skt754 is by far the 'budget' option for A64, 939 is a waste of money unless you get SLI.

Nforce 3 and 4 also perform better than recent VIA chipsets

All of this is true... the DFI NF3 754 mobo is a great price and an excellent board, you should definately go that route if you're looking to save money!

If going 939 stay as far away from DFI as possible, every board is flawed and overpriced... DFI fucked up the entire line of 939 boards. EPoX owns the overclocking category mobo for 939's, and I have heard great things about the Gigabyte 939 mobo's being good overclockers as well.

EPoX 9NPA+ NF4 Ultra = $132

EPoX 9NDA3+ NF3 Ultra = $113

EPoX 9NDA3J NF3 Ultra = $87.99 (same board as the + with different onboard audio controller and different gigabit lan controller).

Whatever you do, just make certain you buy a board with an nForce chipset... Ur gonna bang ur head on the wall if you get a VIA based board and you realize that it doesn't overclock worth a fuck.

A good 939 board (if not the best) is supposed to be the Asus A8N SLI, its just rather picky about its RAM compatability.

Agreed NForce owns VIA for recent chipsets, like 462 and beyond :)

bleh, the A8N SLi sucks a HUGE dick for overclocking... Asus is another company thats not famous for making highly overclockable boards. The A8N runs fine at stock speeds but has weeeeeeeeak ass bios options.

When looking for a good overclocking mobo, make sure the mem tweaking bios page looks like this:

The NF3 is better than a K8T800Pro for overclocking? Seriously? Or are we on about NF4?

NF3 is 10000000000000000000000000x better than the K8T800 Pro for overclocking... That's got to be one of VIA's worst chipsets of all time. I had an MSI board with that set and it was straight pathetic.

OK then all. Thanks for all the advice. If I go for a 3200+ 939 pin then it is ok to OC on the standard cooling? (obviously Water chilling will be added later on). I am thinking on going SLi later on so 939 is the way to go methinks. So what you are saying is that the 754 board and the 3500+ Clawhammer are the best options?

Yeah it's ok on stock cooling, just won't take you very far ;)

Negative... We're saying that you should go 754 if you want to stay on a tight budget. Go 939 if you want to future proof. 3500+ hammer is sweet, yes :)
