Advice on RX 480

I'm behind you all. I'm going to go with the XFX and if it's a crappy overclock which is the only reason I'll have to return it unless temps etc. are bad which I doubt they will, then I'll return and get the nitro +. Also RobM I can get the GTR black for £245 so I'm not sure where you got the £50 less figure from?
Was looking at OC prices bud its 50 more than xxx

Hey it happens, currently rocking the 970 100 million edition, no sag, dead quiet and just solid piece of engineering, but i know there might be a few with issues, just like any other company. Though given its 2017 now and we still have many little niggles with this sort of thing cus of some cheaper options in designs, yeah i could go on forever.

Lol no. It's not just me. The software is bad. It ruins the card. Only thing MSI has going for it is a decent cooler. This isn't just a dud. They are all duds.

I mean it is definitely strange that you had such bad experience with the MSI card because multiple reviewers have said its a better cooler and overclocker than the XFX. I got that card of AquaTuining anyways so lets see how it goes

Hmmm interesting, i would never judge a card from its software, as long as the drivers do as they are intended and the card works, i couldn't care less about software since 90% of the time anything in that software doesn't apply to me.

But i guess for people that like to tweak and overclock, its a fair point if it isnt that good.

I thought the same thing.
But it's software causes driver crashes and unstable clocks. So it does matter. All these issues just to control the stupid LEDs. It bothers me because it's so damn bright and I just want it off. But to turn it off you need the software on. And when it's on your PC crashes. See the problem? I've tried every version of the software I could find. Doesn't help. Actually the newest version makes it so the LEDs aren't producing accurate colors at all so the software is more useless and problematic than it originally was. But hey, it gets the color white correct. Only the most bright color possible... Low and behold it's the default color when software is uninstalled.

unplug the leds

Shouldn't have to. It should just work. They need to get there crap together and fix there software.
This is why I recommend only the XFX card. No software outside of the OC suites they have, but while it's minimal compared to AB, it at least works:)

Okay so the software is crap. But what's the performance like (overlooking and temps)

Temps are good enough. Doesn't go over 80C with my curve and it's quiet with headphones on or speakers on I don't hear it. Without the audio though I can hear it fairly well.
Overclock is terrible. It doesn't hold its own OC profile from the factory. Silicon lottery I definitely lost lol
That doesn't bother me though. Well it does because it adds insult to injury on top of everything else that's wrong but I got over it. It happens

Oh okay lol  I You should have returned it tbh>

I know, but I got it and didn't even install it till a week later and I only had like 10 days left to return but I never got to test it. Just a couple games here and there and when I finally sat down to overclock and etc I got all these problems. So my 30 days was up. Didn't feel like RMA with MSI. Just a terrible experience, I've done it before.

Hi,
Just wanted to say i ended with a sapphire Rx480 nitro+ 8gb, not the the OC version Just nitro +. The card' or fans should i say haven't been noisy at all for me, does get a little hot though at time's. But i'm still breaking my new rig in gently lol.
Was going to go XFX but then found a bargain deal for the sapphire for £209. couldn't pass that up.

Sounds sweet WoLF! Hows your overclocking experience? Yea I guess that was a mistake NBD but oh well at least it isnt the worst and the software elements can be fixed I guess

I'll keep you updated. Going through the posted link to get some guidance on my OC.
Thanks for that post Tolemac.

No problem buddy the guy that wrote the guide I speak to in the weekdays as he runs a gaming stream on twitch

Tom says he is planning to make a CPU OC video. Should wait for that?:)

Oh right that sounds cool. I'll wait for that! I have gotten one of those AIO coolers for the CPU as I thought while the GPU is dead might as well upgrade my CPU cooler. One question though, I have an i5 2500k which I plan to OC. Will this bottleneck the GPU (which I also plan to OC) in games at all - I really don't have anymore money left to spare on my PC though.
