Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 OC 8GB Fans problem resolved ?

Since I cannot post in reviews I post it here, really sorry if I'm wrong.

Hello I want to buy a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 OC 8GB.

I've read carefully your review an I'm a bit afraid of the noise.

You say that the AMD’s latest driver automatically overrides Sapphire’s tuned fan profile.

Did the Sapphire’s TriXX 3.0 utility (which is available now) has resolved the problem of the fans going at maximum speed (2300 RPM I think) ?

Apparently MSI RX 480 GAMING X 8G and ASUS Strix Gaming 8G OC both have the same fan problem going crazy, is it resolved now ?

Maybe the HIS RX 480 IceQ X² Roaring Turbo 8GB make less noise and it's a better solution ? What do you think ?

Thanks in advance

If you want a quiet 480 card then the Sapphire Nitro is not for you however if you want performance it's a really good card.

Hello Tolemac,

It's not that I want a quiet card, I know it's highly overclocked ;)

I just want to know if the new Sapphire’s TriXX 3.0 utility (or AMD's Wattman maybe) can calm down the fan who are apparently going crazy (at top speed) because AMD Drivers override the software ?

I just don't want to have a SpaceX shuttle taking off just near my ears :)

It can, however MSI just updated there's and tbh it's far better than Trixx 3.0. Though both imo are laggy having used both. Just don't use GPU Tweak 2. That's the worst piece of software I've ever used...

I use Trixx 2.0 as I have an R9 290X Vapor X and as far as I know Trixx 3.0 is working fine you can just set a custom fan profile in there to your tastes of loudness. Trust me if Trixx 3.0 wasn't working right Sapphire Ed's discord would have all the 480 Nitro owners spitting their dummies out about it.

It's just that TriXX 3.0 wasn't available when OC3D has made the review of the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 OC 8GB

So I just would have want to know if the guys at OC3D have managed to adress this big annoying fan problem

Sapphire had to refine their Trixx that's why it came out later than the card did. TBH not being a fanboy or anything I actually highly rate Sapphire purely because I have had 4 different graphics cards from them and none have I ever had to RMA :)

The new software does address this. Before the software couldn't even control it because the software didn't know where to read the sensors and couldn't take control. So when you tried setting it manually, the driver would take over because the software couldn't.

Though again, having used both, the Afterburner suite is much better. Also has more features which are useful for AMD users

Personally I find the Sappire trixx one to be better for AMD. It allows more voltage etc without the need to go DIY. Also waaay better of overclocking the mobile GPUs last time I checked with a 7970m anyways.

For nVidia then yeah MSI AB all the way.

I used both and tbh AB is imo better. Trixx annoyed me because i couldn't set it up like AB with it's fan profile and it's graph was terrible to use. Tiny *** window and couldn't be expanded. Looks nice, but it's a backup suite for me imo if AB takes a dump. Not that either are perfect, but are slow to respond, but at least it's not Asus suites. That's pure junk. One of the reasons I sent back my Strix 470.

Hello neverbackdown,

Very glad to ear the software finally adress that !

I don't know if you have a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 OC 8GB but is the noise acceptable now in full charge (with either Afterburner or TriXX) ?

A noisey card is a noisey card. Having the fan issue fixed won't help with it.No I don't have it, but seeing as it struggles to keep the card cool it'll need to be running high to keep those temps down.

I've used the Strix cooler and the Gaming cooler. So far the Gaming cooler is best in all regards

Finally I go for an MSI Radeon RX 480 GAMING X 8GB.
It seems much more silent with basically the same performance.
So bye bye Sapphire
