Advice on new GPU

Have just built a new PC and £300 left to buy a gpu.
Looking for some advice what would offer the best performance for price.
Current build is :
Ryzen 1600x
Corsair 16gb 3000mhz
MSI Mortar Arctic B350
Corsair RM850W

The best advice I can give you is look at what screen resolution you want to run and don't go overkill ;)

I would also recommend a second hand 1070, really good value if you can find one that was not heavily used.

980Ti can be had for quite a bit less than a 1070 and almost as good.

980Ti is competing with 1080. It beats 1070 pretty good.

My advice is get a nice 980Ti with a decent cooler. Give it a clean, some new thermal paste and overclock it. 1080 performance for a reasonable price.

Just go to your favorite retailer and see what the fastest card you can get for $300 is, probably a 1060.

The 980Ti is a good idea as it's still plenty fast but I generally stay away from used gear. I've had horrible luck with used stuff over the years and just rather pay extra and get something brand spanking new.

Nah, it doesn't. I had a Titan XM and on DX11 it was a tiny bit faster when both OC and the Titan lost in DX12. It is pretty much dead level even with a 1070, only it consumes a bit more power. Nothing crazy though.

My Titan used to run 1454 btw it was on a Hybrid.

All 980Ti OC are above the 1070 STRIX. Tom also said in review that 1080 was equal to 980Ti and that if you had 980Ti just overclock it and be happy.

Buying used can be tricky. It would the best if you can see the rig in person. GPUs are usually good for buying used. You can't do them much harm.

LOL no way. Seriously, no way. If that was the case no one would have bought the 1080. 1080 is about 30% faster than a stock 980Ti. Overclocked it's more like 15-20% faster.

I'm telling you dude, it's dead even with the 1070, with one being better for DX11 with the other being better for DX12. Wraith and I ran a load of benchmarks when he got his 1070.

OK. I'll trust you on that. I have never had a chance to compare them in person.

To me it wasn't worth upgrading to a 1080. Because it was only 15-20% and the 1080 was too expensive (still is, IMO). That's why I waited and bought a T XP. The XM was starting to slow in new games at 1440p and I knew it was only a matter of time. I was hitting 40 FPS mins in demanding games and like it to be higher.

I thought you were way off on this and checked Anand's bench and I'll be damned, you're dead on. 30%+ faster than a 980Ti. That actually surprised me, I thought they were a lot closer. Glad I checked before spouting off on here lol.

At launch they were only around 15% faster. Then the drivers improved, and of course Maxwell got worse, and yeah..

Both overclocked it's more like 20% or so but was only around 15% at launch. It wasn't worth going from a 980Ti to a 1080 of course, but many did because it's Nvidia...

But yeah, 980Ti/TXM dead even with a 1070 wins some loses some. Nvidia made sure that no matter how well the 1070 clocked it would not catch the 1080 at stock like the 670-680 and 970-980. They wanted a nice gap this time to make every one buy.

I didn't get a 1080 and the 1070 was pointless to me. I just waited for a XP to come up at a 1080Ti price, then pounced.
