Advice on a new keyboard

Hi guys,

I didnt found any section to peripherals such as Headphones, Mouses or Keyboards. And since it is expensive stuff (talking about the enthusiast series) I came for your advice.

I want to buy a new keyboard and I have some stuff I want for sure:

- Good mechanical keys;

- Back-light;

- Macro Keys;

- Good build;

- Around 120€.

So the ones that catch my eye were the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate since I have already Razer peripherals and they are good (talking about cacharias and Mamba 4G) and the brand new Corsair Vengeance K90 which seems to be amazing build quality, very good looking and very functional.

So between these 2 which one would you take??

Corsair Vengeance K90 vs Razer BlackWidow Ultimate ??

Vengeace K90 Page

Razer Black widow Ultimate page

Do you have a better option then these 2??

Thanks a lot guys,

Ralm.

P.s.: The fact that the Vengeance K90 is not fully mechanical keys that is not a big of a deal, because being honest how many times you use F keys or the Function keys and how important are they really. I just would like to have the macro keys mechanical but they are not sadly.

I just went through the same thing. The first thing you need to decide is what kind of mechanical switches you want. I opted for Cherry MX Brown switches.

Take a look at this guide:

http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide

I ended up going with the Filco Majestouch-2. I didn't want macro keys, I wanted something more traditional. I did want backlighting, but that is a feature I decided to live without. I did a few quick typing tests on my old keyboard and typed about 74 WPM. With the new keyboard I was around 83 WPM. It does feel way different than a normal rubber dome keyboard so I expect my typing to improve further after I am used to it.

I first was interested in the Razer, but after reading a ton of reviews I decided against it. Lots of users are complaining about them dieing after 6 months. I'm sure that's a minority, but I didn't want to risk it. Also, that keyboard doesn't have the brown switches.

Read through the guide, it helped me out a lot.

Thanks a lot for the guide link. It really helped understand the difference in the mechanical switches. Im really into the corsair keyboard and its build with red cherry switches and following the definition in the guide I think it will be the right choice to me. The only moment I will start writing a lot will be programing and since they say the red keys are light that is cool, since I like that kind of feel. Not have to do that much effort to press a key.

The back-light I really want because I think its pretty awesome to be able to be in the dark and still be able to write with no problem.

The macros is mainly for gaming and I will try to assign accents there to use such as: ` ´ ^ ~ Since Im Portuguese and we use that kind of stuff.

I will hope for more opinions.

Thanks.

The Corsair mechanical keyboards do look great and seem to fit what you are looking for.

Really depends on your preferences. This is what it essentially comes down to.

Razer

- Brown or Blue switches

- 2kro with "Anti ghosting" (except for the Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth which has 6kro)

- Black

- 5 macro keys

Corsair

- Red switches

- 20kro

- Black and aluminum

- A lot of macro keys
