Advice for a power supply to match my rig

Hi, here's a link to a website (PCpartpicker) where you can see the parts I've chosen in order to build a gaming pc:

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/AbdulBasiet/saved/9jMMnQ

According to a friend of mine, those parts should be able to run a game like Watchdogs quite well. I would like a second opinion on that if possible. My main concern is whether that power supply (750w) is necessary or not. I would really appreciate a response.

Thank you, this is a great forum, the best I've seen so far

Tom did a guide for PSU picking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajiN9aVOv4A

About the parts picked so far tho, why not get a SSD with higher write speeds than 150 MB/s?
Like this intel one: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-internal-hard-drive-ssdsc2bf120h501

Also, why not go for 2x4gb of ram in dual channel instead of 8gb in single channel? the MOBO supports it i'm sure :) http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cmz8gx3m2a1600c9

Hope this helps!

Hey OP,

in short to answer your question, No you will not need a 750W PSU, also 320 seems rather steep for a GTX 770, why not have a look around for a 780 or 780 ti? There are some massive price cuts for thr 700 series atm

In reply to Newbie_NS810:
I'm from South Africa so the prices from that list are not the same here, and the gtx 770 is on special here at a local store. Furthemore, my friend has urged me to get a 750w PSU because his 550w blew. Apparently the gtx 770 is a guzzler especially when playing games which demand high graphics.

In reply to MadShadow:
I agree that a 550w-600w should give me enough headroom even if I were to run games like Watchdogs. So thanks for the advice on the Corsair RM550 MadShadow :) although it's slightly more expensive (from my contact) than the 750w in my original part list.

In reply to Xenomorphical:
That wattage guide is what led me to this forum but thanks anyway. I've taken your advice on the ssd and the 2x4gb, thanks so much.

Thanks for all your replies, I really appreciate it :)

One more thing (sorry to make things complicated) I might have to wait until next year before i can buy the graphics card - my parents are limiting my budget x_x So, keeping in mind the parts I've listed except for the gpu, is it still okay to get the Corsair RM550. I'm basically asking:

1. Whether excluding the gpu will leave too much headroom or if it's okay, and 2. is too much headroom bad? and in what way?

You don't have to reply to this if you feel i'm being unnecessary - I'm a newbie. And thank you once again to all of you for the responses.

The maximum you really need is a 550 watt power supply. That can be a Corsair one or whatever you choose. There is no such thing as too much headroom. It wont damage any components. Just ask if you have any more questions :D

I just read a sticky thread and realised that i might have given too little information so i'm making it difficult for members to help me.

The problem is I'm in South Africa (not willing to import because of import duties) and the local prices are different prices so I don't think my budget will make any sense to you. But in case it does, my budget is 10 000 rands (R10 000). And to help you relate prices of parts to my budget, here is the website that has the cheapest local prices for me: http://landmarkpc.co.za/

Hope this helps
Thank you

Thank you so much MadShadow :D

No problem mate.

For the PSU just get something with a minimal of 550 watts and from a trusty brand. The best brands are Corsair, Coolermaster, Bequiet, Seasonic, etc. There are more, but these are my favorites. Whatever you can get the best deal on, go for it.

Also the fact that a PSU blows has nothing to do with the amount of wattage it is.
It's either:

1 a shitty brand, or
2 a faulty unit

Keep in mind, a PSU is a part you do NOT want to go cheapo on.
Another thing you want to keep an eye on is if the PSU you are going to get is MODULAR or not.
Modular = only the cables you need so you save cable mess in your case.

Ask more if you need more info, we're here to help :)

This looks like your best bet. Its a seasonic psu rebadged as a coolermaster PSU. Its cheaper than the Corsair equivilent.

thanks barnsley. is this one fine too? It's also cooler master, slightly cheaper though. but what does "no power cord" mean? and does the seasonic psu that you suggested include a power cord?
