Advice for a major rebuild

Hello Everyone. I'm trying to make a few decisions on a rebuild that I have upcoming, probably within a month or so, and what components I need/should use. Before I continue, I just wanna outline what I want out of this build, and my budget.

1) Streaming Raids on World of Warcraft
2) Star Citizen
3) Last me a solid 5 years

Budget: $1200-$1300

I do have a few parts I am keeping as well from my current build, they are:

GPU: EVGA GTX 680
PSU: Corsair HX 750
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

Here's the parts that I have listed as the same for each build idea:

SSD1: Crucial MX100 256GB
SSD2: Crucial MX100 256GB
HD1: Seagate 1TB SSHD 3.5" Form Factor
OpSy: Windows 8
Case: Corsair Air 540

What my debate basically is this: X99 just got released, and it is possible within my budget to go that direction with:

CPU: i7-5820k
MoB: MSI X99 SLI Plus
MeM: G-Skill DDR4 2133 4x4GB

Or should I stick with my original idea, perhaps save the money if the performance will not benefit me, and get:

CPU: i7-4790k
MoB: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
Mem: Corsair DDR3 1866 2x8GB

Just looking for honest opinions, For my uses am I wasting money basically going for the new X99 platform? Or would it be worth it down the road?

Probably a stupid ?... but just becuase I cant find a picture, or anything to confirm... do all of the X99 Boards come with a pre-installed Backplate for something like a H100i

No idea.... but i would assume the 2011-3 would use the same X type as the 2011 which yes was built into the boards.

The X99 platform is a lot like the X79 platform socket, it comes with the same backplate and should fit all X79-compatible coolers. At least that's what I heard when watching some videos on them on YouTube :)

I would indeed go with the X99 socket, it should last you at least 4 more years (People with Sandy Bridge-e or Ivy Bridge-e had arguably the most powerful systems up to a few days ago). I'd say go with the i7 5820k. Do you need a new case, new storage drives etc. too? :) I'll see what I can put together for $1300 max.

EDIT: I'd say go for your idea mate! I've put something together, opted for the WD Caviar Black 1TB drive and the X99 UD4 from Gigabyte, but I forgot that you need a copy of Windows 8 as well. If you can get the X99 SLI Plus and the other parts you listed for your budget, you won't be disappointed at all ;)

I'd not go for x99 right now because DDR4 ram is so expensive (and the platform as a whole). The Z97 option you've listed will last you for quite a while with the GTX 680 being the first thing that will hold you back.
With the money you've saved you can easily upgrade in 3-4 insted of 5 years

Dude I say go X99 why buy essentially yesterday's tech? You'll be getting on board X99 at the beginning so you'll get the absolute most use out of the platform. Yes it may cost you a couple of hundred more but you are also getting 6 cores instead of 4, you're also getting ddr4 instead of ddr3. Big upgrades for realistically little extra expense. If it was going tp be like 1k difference or something stupid like that I'd be say Z97 for sure but we're only talking a few hundred if that. So you might have to save for an extra week but god dam would it be worth it.

For the x99 system i put together everything you asked for except windows 8 and it came out the $1500.

Hopefully you can the link works for you and you can see everything.

I removed both ssds and made it a single 512GB mx100. Cheaper that way and easier to manage. Everything else kept the same and it was over $1500 so x99 for you isn't your best option. Though for a "future proof 5 year PC" your budget would need to be far higher as your current one is pretty low.. that would be for a good PC for about 3 years. 5 years is a big difference.

I cant see everything in the cart myself,, chance of just listing the items? I can search for em myself on newegg.

Apologize for the late reply, had family up for Labor Day weekend

---------------

As for the Vid Card, that's actually next on my list, but i'm waiting till the new R9's are released to see which company puts out the better card for my uses (I know Star Citizen is going Mantle... could weigh heavily)

---------------

ATM, here's what I had listed for my X99 Build

MSI X99 SLI PLUS
I7-5820k
2x256GB Crucial MX100 (Or a 512)
Corsair Air 540
4x4GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR4 2133

I removed the extra HD for the time being, and the budget came to $1248 (Got lucky and have a friend who's giving me a OEM Version of Windows 8 64-bit)
