accquiring network address?

how would windows firewall block a network connection??? It can block data going through the network connection, not the network connection itself.

Sounds like it could be mac filtering. It might be enabled on the router and would only allow certain computers/laptops if there mac has been allowed on the router. You really do need to check out the settings on the router for us to help you anymore, else we will be going round in circles!

I'd like to know how we've had 24 posts, yet no-one has said anything about encryption :\.

Have you got any over computers connected to the router?

Sounds more like the DHCP server is disabled on the router, or the encryption key is wrong.

dont think it would be the encrytion key as that usual will return saying that its incorrect. DHCP could be a reason. If he could do a ipconfig/all at the command prompt that would tell us what his/her ip settings are.

Not at all, I didn't always go by the law, and I assure you, you can connect to a network with the wrong key, but all the data you recieve is scrambled. Only real way to know is if you get the limited connectivity problem. Think about it, if you get a message about wrong key, it would be a hell of a lot easier to crack, that said, I think the lead time's about 3 mins anyway (for wep) and about 11 mins for WPA.

just put it to test on my laptop (windows zero config software) and yes ur right, it does stay on getting ip address. when i try on my other laptop (use's netgear software) it comes up with error, incorrect wep key. So im guessing your right.

Never knew it did, but eh, what'd ya know? ;). I figure Rich is using WZC, or something that doesn't tell you, and the key's either wrong, or in the wrong format.
