ok im acctually serioulsy annoyed, my computer is fixed now, well, kind of, because now my wireless connection, is gay, and im rubbish and dont know what to do, so it connects, but then says accquiring network address or something, now this does not happen, lol and it says it has no signal or limited connectivity, but it does definatly have a signal because it does connect

so, how can i fix this?

lol like i said im rubbish but i think im manually configuring, llwyd or graham know about my rig, so they have a better idea than me

:rollingla :rotfl:

Oh you do so amuse me.

Right click on the wireless icon in the taskbar and select 'repair'

If that doesn't work your stuffed as you dont have the pass to your router config.

that doesnt work, thats what i meant, it connects then says renewing ip addresss and does sweet fa

Ok restart you computer, if that fails restart the router. You will have to switch it off at the plug as you dont have access to the config. Leave it for a 30 seconds, then switch it on again. let it boot and see if that works.

Also what was wrong with your rig?

For everyone else hes using DHCP on some router we (me and llwyd) have never heard of.

uhh i duno it got dropped off when i was out with the mrs, annd, do i switch off my computer when i switch off the router?

Do them seperatly

First restart your PC, let it boot and see if its working.

If it dosnt work, turn off the router, wait 30 secs then turn it back on. Let it boot properly and see then.

Does your router have a reset button? If so turn off your router and hold down the reset button for one minute, that will reset your router to factory settings so that you can login.

login sounds like i will need some kind of username or password, which i dont have, lol.. plus i just checked no reset button

factory settings will set login to admin admin or password password (anything else would be specified in the paperwork)

well it doesnt matter because there is no reset button anyway

ill try and get it going tomro, until then guyss, im going to bed, its too late

i need my beauty sleep!

thanks for your help

Some routers wont reset that way. With my Netgear and my Belkin, I held the reset button down when it was plugged IN. After a few seconds all the lights will flash/blink and it's reset. :)

Well he got the general idea of "reset to factory settings" however you might go about doing it on that pos router he has :p

@Rich

What router do you have? As mentioned, it sounds like the DHCP is disabled in your router. What is the LANside (gateway) IP address of your router?

Are you trying to config your network connection with an ethernet cable before going wireless; that's usually the best way.

If you know the IP address of the router you could always set up your PC IP address manually in the TCP/IP properties of the network adapter.

check to see if your wireless is set to receive dhcp or if it has been given a static address. if you go to start > run then type cmd and ress enter. now in the at the command prompt type ipconfig/all and press enter. now paste the results in here.

How long have you waited before you hit repair or whatever after it says limited or no connectivity? I have a strange little thing where after it connects (you do know that acquiring network address is supposed to happen right?, just making sure :p) it says limited or no connectivity, then about 10-20 seconds later the connection is suddenly perfectly fine

mine did that for a while and then changed

but its been on all day and it is still like it,

but i dont get it, because on this computer, the internet is working fine,

but is that just because this is directly connected to the router?
