.... oh yes! now im sure you all know what beasty overclockers the Radeon 9550 Pro's were, well im gunna try a record overclock with my old one...

i need some serious cooling... i already had the artic cooling aftermarket cooler... no biggie... so i thought tonight id try something a little bit... stupid? :D

lets begin..

i begin with the simple Diamond Radeon 9550 256MB DDR AGP 8x GFX card

i started by adding some ramsinks i had lying around from my old zalman 9800 cooler

i then began to cut away at the artic cooling cooler it had...

i did this with a drill as i dont have a dremel or anything haha did the job though!

afterward i fitted an Xbox 360 heatsink to the GPU and housed it into the artic cooling unit

then i got another cooling from my old xbox and fitted this to the rear of the card with some thermal pads so it cools the rear RAM chips

sorted afew rough bits out... and w00t!

i will be back with the overclock results! :D

Ghetto :D

I'd try putting a small (40-60mm?) fan on the large heatsink to make it more actively cooled. I guess noise doesn't matter anyway :p

yea i was thinking that iv got the dual fans from the back of the xbox 360 which would be pretty major overkill

the thing is this thing is actually running cold now haha its not even remotely warm :P

overclock til death!! xD

Indeed !

Only thing bothering me is that the fan is against the flat edge of the heat sink and won't do anything for it.

ye i did think of that... umm any ideas on how i could sort that out??

as for temps.. erm... lol im not sure the 9550 can tell you its temps??? or can it?

put it this way its in a REALLY warm pc (really poorly cooled server) and the heatsinks are not even hot they are VERY lightly warm :p

Don't forget to volt mod.

any info on how to do this?? iv never delt with volt mods on gfx cards???

tbh, I'd strap a fan on the grill itself, facing down if u like.

good plan! il try and source a fan at work that will fit.

im currently running ATI tool to OC the little beast the default clocks are a rarther puney 249/196

any ideas on what il reach??? xD

shall update shortly

Edit: iv managed 460/225 over 249/196

Lol that looked fun! bet you probably cut you're self a few times during its construction! i remember when i was cutting some plastic sheet and it flew into my hand where it embedded itself in :D that was a good trip to the A&E...

lol don't know how to volt mod my self but if you're going to overclock 'til death then there needs to be enough POWAH! going through the thing. Hence why I mentioned volt modding.

Google it :p

yeah i had a little look, didnt find much though its hard to find a guide specially for this card given the age of it

460/230 (460 effective) is a pretty good overclock id say?? (249/196 original)
