Also from that link, this clearly shows RAM voltages can go much higher... If 1.6v would kill your CPU, why would they allow settings so far above it:

I mean yeah we do have crazy voltage settings available on motherboards now but I just don't see that RAM is going to be limited to 1.6vs

maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part..

Yes I must admit this sounds very odd,

surely my ram wont function at 1.6v odd?

yes it will, with lower speeds and/or timings

the jedec standard is 1.5v
