9800GT 512MB vs. HD3850 1024MB????

DirectX 10.1 is just about nothing. DirectX 9.0c can run most 10.1 games and the 10.1 features aren't that good at all.

The 1GB memory on the 3850 will:

A. not be required unless you have 2*30" dualscreen or something

B. Not be completely utilised because of the limited bandwidth

The 9800GT is able to fully utilize its memory, which is way more important than the quantity.

EDIT: and please stop crossposting (same question in two topics) as it's quite confusing. Choose one thread to continue with and refer to it in the other thread.

Thanks! I opened a new thread becuse I wanted all people to see my new dillema. Im still going with the 3850 becuse hey, it does seem like a little bit too much, but on the long run, I think that 3850 is better becuse I don`t have 300-400$ to upgrade every couple of months. Thanx for the help anyway. Here is the rest of the configuration:

DDR-2 4GB PC 800 Kingston

MBO AM2

CPU AMD Athlon 64 6000+ Dual Core BOX socket AM2

Do you think I should go with AMD or Intel, with the same amount of GHz?

If you can get it with the same amount of GHz, go for Intel. They are faster clock per clock and can most of the time be overclocked fairly well too, depending on your motherboard.

Why the 3850? My guess is that you're more futureproof with the 9800GT.

3850 becuse, hey, a gig is a GIG of ram, i know that it`s GDDR2 vs. GDDR3, but I think that crysis and gta 4 will run smoother, and though dx10.1 is considered unnecesary, but it`s a good thing to have in the future, and it`s a good thing to take advantage of the situation and buy that gfx.

Is AMD or Intel better for games? I always thought that AMD was for games, and Intel was for multitasking office work.:(

*sigh* Ok, have it your way on the graphics card, just don't say I recommended the '50 :p

Intel is currently holding nearly all crowns, only the value for money in the low budget sector is still AMD. An E8400 will kick around most of the games you throw at it.
