£900 build, including a monitor, please help me out

Not yet, but I will. I'm definitely not considering anything except for Asus or MSI, because a good friend of mine is a repair technician, and he says that these two manufacturers' boards are the best quality ones.

I'm also looking for a board with WiFi built in, and would like Bluetooth too.

I don't know about that, Gigabyte offer fantastic quality motherboards and I have never had one fail, as for WIFI and Bluetooth - may I ask why, a wifi adapter only costs about £5. And I think it's only very expensive boards that have bluetooth

only £5? Awesome, no need for on-board WiFi then, I didn't know they are so cheap.

As in regards to Gigabyte, I'll have a look. I'll be honest, picking a mb seems to be the hardest task.

For Z77 I think you would be better off with MSI, I was just pointing out that Gigabyte are good quality

I personally have an ASUS P8Z77 Deluxe which I think is fantastic, and I do think onboard wifi makes things so much simpler than a separate adapter. I've been through so many different adapters (mainly belkin) and had issues getting drivers to work properly. With the integrated wifi on the board drivers arent really an issue anymore, and it does all work very well.
The £5 adapters IMO are pretty gash tbh

I think the max I'm willing to spend on the mb is £150-ish, and the P8Z77 Deluxe is way out of that range. Also in my new house I will only be using the rig on WiFi, so do need solid performance. Does anybody know of a decent WiFi card? Depending on the costs, I'd rather put that money towards the mb.

Nope, none at all. So far as I'm aware, that's just for a range extender on the deluxe, so you can get the wifi signal from the router and broadcast it out again for further away laptops...I think.

No idea what other feature it could be for because if I take out one of them it gives me no issues with connection and doesnt decrease speed in any way so I dont really think it's needed

Because it was just after my 18th birthday, so I had a far bit of money so I thought if I had the money I may as well get the best that was available...

I did look at the differences between them. I thought the heatsinks of the deluxe looked nicer and would perform better. I also thought it had 'cooler' features, such as the LED post indicator and thunderbolt - not that I'd be using it anyway. It also has a better power phase system for better overclocking so far as I'm aware.

It probably didnt really justify spending the extra money on it, but I wasnt exactly short at the time and I'm so so glad I did get it.

I also built a PC for a mate of mine, initially using the gigabyte ud5 wifi. Because of his TV however, through HDMI the BIOS wouldnt display properly, which we then thought was a motherboard issue, so we RMA'ed the board - even thought I'm still sure there was nothing wrong with it. Still, the mugs at ebuyer accepted it :)

He was going to buy the p8z77 pro, but he'd seen mine, and did also think the extra wifi antenna may be useful, so he got the deluxe instead.

Through 2 of them now, despite them being a fair bit more expensive than some similar ones, I honestly believe they are worth it. We havent had a problem with either, the BIOS is very easy to use and the built in wifi is by far the best I've ever used. I have also used a £50 belkin pci card which despite being an excellent product, the driver support was not there. With this the drivers have been fantastic and I've never had 1 bar drop of signal through use, never had the speed decrease whatsoever nor have I had any random disconnections like I previously have with wifi adapters. As it's built in, it also doesnt take up a pci lane or a usb slot which does make things pretty easy.

I was only ever going to buy one of the asus or gigabyte boards because I did think that on board wifi would be far better than a secondary card, and I am so glad that I did buy this in the end.

I dont want to be taking anything away from the other manufacturers as I'm sure they're good too, but because of this, my next board will be another ASUS I'm sure

@jamesriley94, thanks a lot for such a detailed reply.

You know, the more I read around and watch videos and look at photos, the more I realise that I might regret getting a blue-themed board. That doesn't leave much choice but the Maximus V Gene, which I picked originally. It also comes with an expansion slot for WiFi card, which I already have, plus an mSATA drive (I plan to get one for cashing, as I cannot afford a big enough SSD).
I did initially consider MSI GD55, but then found out that it doesn't support Virtu Technology of using the discrete graphics and the built in at the same time, plus the absence of WiFi options (except for expansion slots).
Also, out of Asus P8Z77-V's, the only one I'd go for would be the Pro, but its so ugly. Why so many different colours? Deluxe, as I already mentioned, is too expensive.
I am also considering Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H WiFi version, but I dont know... Feels like Asus MVG is better, based on reviews. Also the addon card is massive.

What cooling are you planning? I have a D14 and a 7950 on mine which cover most of the board anyway, so the bits you can see are nice, and aside from that the features and functionality of it is great. The PCB of it is also black / as near as it can be to black which is great IMO

I'm thinking of H100, and to be honest, I'm even considering not to buy a heatsink for the build and use the stock Intel cooler until I get the H100 or something else. I'd like to watercool mainly because I want to see the board.

Well your comment about the loads of different colours I dont really get? Only really black and 2 different shades of blue. The bottom heatsink has a blue LED underneath so that greyish colour changes to blue.

I meant the PRO version, there are 3 different blues, plus white for some reason. Just seems inconsistent.

I suppose. I dont really get why companies cant just put the same coloured components on their boards, or maybe thats why you just have to pay more to get the deluxe ;)

It doesnt really matter IMO. All Z77 boards are good, cant really go wrong anyway :)

As for the monitors, there are 2 versions of the iiyama, the current one has an improved overdrive system so no longer has any issues with ghosting.

Not too sure what else you're pointing out with that thread?

In particular this: " In short it is considerably less responsive than the U2312HM and as with all modern VA panels I wouldn't recommend it for gaming. There are certain 'high contrast' transitions that you will notice on games (relatively light colours moving against a relatively dark background and vice-versa) that will appear to 'smear' on the X2377HDS. That kind of trailing is far more noticeable than anything the U2312HM would produce. The colour consistency across the screen isn't as good on the Dell, either, so really the U2312HM stands as the best all-rounder for your uses." But you say that there is a new version of iiyama, is it the same model code? Because if it is, then there is no way one can know which one you're getting, especially considering its a sale item.
