Hi im looking to buy a grphics card quite soon, want DX 9 as i only have windows XP and im looking for an upgade to play cysis well. I have been recomended this one but not in stock :( http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=343127

Any sugestions, it must be compatible with XP and I dont really want to spend more than £150 but I may be able stretch to £180

Also, are these compatible with Xp?

yep a 8800gt will work in xp. I have seen a few stores with stock now. just get which ever one you can really and oc it up to the speed of the faster mre exspensive cards :)

Im waiting to get hold of EVGA KO version, which has been delayed since.. forever. When you get one make sure you turn up the fan speed so it doesn't go cooking itself!

One thing id be quite happy to recommend just for this card is get a stock overclocked one, most are hand picked like the EVGA ones so you will likely get higher max overclocks, also overclocking the memory is rumored to basically brake the card, so the BFG 8800GT 0C2 like I just got has 1950mhz memory to start with, I wont budge that.

I've read on the EVGA forums that people are having to drastically underclock pre-overclocked (usually back to stock speeds or lower) cards in order to play games. I'm guessing it's the memory overheating due to the $hit£ cooler. Which to be honest is just terrible, for any product not to work as specified is just not good enough, even more so when its costing 180quid. If it's true, then Nvidia has been plainly negligent, how can they release something they have clearly not tested well enough. If it's all bull or just very isolated cases of faulty cards.. then I'll be happily playing Crysis, Bioshock, COD 4 and The Witcher at aceptable, bargain price frame rates :)

The stock cooler on my Asus 8800GT is more than adequate for the card with my clocks ramped all the way up to 710 core, 2100 memory and 1850 shader. Fan at 75% it doesn't go above 58 degrees.

I noticed my eVGA 8800GT Superclocked getting up to a toasty 95C during benchmarking :o, so I downloaded Rivatuner and manually set the fan to 60%. The max temp is now 87C. The fan noise isn't too bad compared to the rest of my case fans, but its a priority for you (ie trying to run a silent PC) then you'll want to go with another card.

Hi, Does the Brand make a difference to the quality or the card or is it all the same?

If I am looking to OC id need a new cooler right?, which one would you reccomend as I dont know much about it, I dont want to be spending to much on this either.

Also, will I be ok with 256Mb or will i need 512Mb for cryisis with it set on high graphics?

Well the 512mb still has trouble playing Crysis at all high.. Its smooth enough to play but when it gets a bit intense you lose some frames and notice the difference.

As for needing an aftermarket cooler, thats not true. I've stuck with the stock cooler and had some good results (in sig) at fine temps. You just need to up the fan speed.

Hehehehehehe

BFG 8800GT OC2 but I briefly put mine at 700/1720/1950, Q6600 at 3ghz. Quite happy with the result :D

Has both complains but im not going back to approved drivers using these oens for crysis.

Anyway, I can happily reccomend this card, cost me £192 quite steep but meh.

eVGA super overclocked runs Crysis prefectly at 1024x768. I lag for about 20-30 seconds on the intial run, but after that period I'm good to go.

Very High settings are sexual.

i only have a single core procceser, will this work with the dx10 graphics card. Its

Amd 64 3500+ @ 2744 MHz
