GTX 1080 Advice

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. Good to see a few familiar names still around. I've been out of the game quite a while now.

My GTX 690 has finally started having issues. I've had the same PC setup for the last 5 years and not even opened the case in until last week (dust was bad!).

I'm looking at replacing it to a GTX 1080. The cards seem to have 3xDP, 1xHDMI and 1xDVI. I'm running two 1920x1080 DVI monitors and a 720p TV over HDMI.

I remember with the old cards we needed active display port to DVI converters to run multi-screens properly. I'm just wanting to know if that's still the case?

Also, I'm assuming a GTX 1080 is the way to go? I plan on leaving my PC as it is until something else goes wrong so would like it to last for the next few years.

This is the one I'm looking at.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Alien, thanks for the reply.

Is there any reason why the Gigabyte card is bad? Reviews seem fine and I've been using my housemate's 1070 equivalent for the last week which also seems fine.

Also I can get free delivery tomorrow from Amazon and it's a bit of a pain to get it delivered to work in the week!

Because since the 10 series Gigabyte have been building very cheap cards. Like, cheap as in made. The cooler on that is barely adequate. IDK dude, it's your money. They just reviewed poorly across the board is all.

There you go. Much better looking card with a back plate and costs less.

Edit. I thought the giga did not have a back plate.. Any way, sticking to what I said. The Palit Jetstream is a fine card and the fans on it are very quiet (I had two 670 JS BITD).

Also where are my manners.. It's good to see you James don't be a stranger !

I agree with Alien on this one get the Palit. I have a Jetstream 1080 and it hasn't skipped a beat for 11 months. The cooler is big but very efficient :).

Thanks for the advice. I've gone with the Gigabyte anyway in the end; it's just more convenient for delivery tomorrow. For my purposes I'm sure it will be fine.

I just hope the rest of my Sandybridge system doesn't bottleneck it too much!

I sold my 1070 and got a old msi 780 to tide me over till the next gen cards are out got it for £85,i just feel that buying this gen is a waste unless its a bargin.
