8350 vs 3570k?

Ok so I've been reading and watching alot of reviews on both the i5-3570k and the FX-8350. So far I see that the 3570k is slightly better for gaming altho not very noticable on some titles. I plan to use this new build I'm working on for online gaming and 3D game development.

My question is this: Given that the 8350 will perform almost the same while gaming, would it be a better choice for programs like C4D, 3DS Max, Unity, CryEngine, etc? Or would I not notice much difference in my 3D development applications using the i5-3570k over 8350?

Also, all the research I've done shows me that using a PCIe 3.0 card in a PCIe 2.0 slot wouldn't show a major difference in performance. However, I'm trying to somewhat "future-proof" my system so will it be beneficial to just stick to the i5-3570k ( which I plan to OC the heck out of ) and an MSI Z77 Mpower for the PCIe 3.0. I'm going to be using a Sapphire OC'd Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition GPU and I plan to get a 2nd for Crossfire in about 2-3 months.

This shows a few benchmarks like Blender and PhotoShop, so for rendering. Watch closely, some benchmarks are 'lower is better'. The 3570k wins most of the time and you'll have the ability to upgrade to an i7 if you think you're going to need hyperthreading later. The i5 also uses a lot less power.

Either will be fine, but I'd personally go Intel as they offer much more performance per core. Even though the AMD's 8 cores might be useful while rendering.

Thanks for the quick response. I do plan to upgrade onto the build when the time comes. That's why I'm leaving room for an additional 16GB of ram later down the line for 32GB total. I plan to crossfire Dual Sapphire Radeon HD 7870's and one day upgrade to the i7-3770k. I guess at first glance, it seems I have much more room to grow with an intel setup over an AMD. Would you agree?

Also, here's the specs of the build I've worked up so far:
Motherboard: MSI Big Bang Z77 MPower
Processor: Intel Core i5-3570k Ivy Bridge
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB ( 2x 8GB ) DDR3 1600
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 (Overclocked)
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD Black 500GB SATA III
Power Supply: Corsair CX750M 750w 80 Plus Bronze Modular
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Tower Case: Corsair Obsidian 650D Mid-Tower ATX
Optic Drive: LG 24x DVD-Burner Black

Not sure if I'm allowed to link it, but Logan from Tek Syndicate made a video about this 8350 vs 3570k thing and the 8350 seems to win

I don't see much wrong with that build, maybe get a 1TB instead of the 500GB since there isn't much in the prices. Only addition I would make to it would be an SSD but you can add that at a later date if you wish.

Well I'm kind of on a budget and I'm already $110 over that budget. Thats why I went with the 500GB. I plan to get a Corsair SSD and another 2TB WD Black in a few months. Will be using the 500GB in an older system when I upgrade my HDDs.

Using only 120GB of storage for a couple of months isn't something I'd advise, I've not exactly got a lot of files and I'm easily over 200GB. If you plan on uping the storage at a later date when funds are easier to come by then by all means do that, my suggestions were only ways to further improve what you had chosen.

Intel® Core i5 or i7 always before AMD.
For me Intel is more interesting for OC and calm use 2-3 years.
You can OC higher, submit higher temperatures, more durable,
less price drop after 2-3 year. He have some advantage like less power consumption but that is not important for hard core gamers.

Oh, I should have mention'd this from the start. I already have a 2TB WD Black in my current build for storage. I just need a better HDD (SATA III) for a system drive.

If you are keeping that, don't bother with the 500GB and get an SSD as a boot drive for your programs.

Intel>AMD for what you are planning on doing.

Yea, I am going to be moving my 2TB WD Black over to the new build. $120 is a little more than what I was planning to spend for a system drive right now but I guess it is worth skipping a few nights at the bar or whatever.

Thanks for the insight guys.

do you have plans to overclock? seems in your list of items you are :)
if not then let go of the h100i so you will be closer to your budget.

if you dont overclock but want looks then keep the h100i :)

The i5 and 8350 are pretty comparable at stock clocks, but the i5 Is more consistent for performance across everything (if a program isnt written for 8 threads the AMD's raw processing power is reduced, while the intel's strong single core performance will always show strong even if its only using 2 threads) and when OC'd the 3570k beats the 8350 at most things.

Yes, the setup I put together is meant to be overclocked to the max I can safely or I wouldn't bother with the H100i. Also if you can tell by the look of the setup is going to be a full Corsair Black theme. Im not planning any lighting at the moment but I'm thinking of using some sound activated interior light strips and possibly changing the fans to LED fans. I'm just debating between red, blue, or green for a glow theme.

Lots of pics coming once I have everything shipped to me and built.

White LED fans will look great, they will just highlight the little accents from your motherboard, RAM and GPU instead of spreading a one colour glow over the entire pc that would render your black colour scheme useless...

White is a lot more subtle imo :)
