7970 or GTX CARD?

Was looking at the MSI 7970 OC version, core @ 1010 memory at 5500mhz.(£315)

Is this going to be my best option for gaming and my 300 budget or should i consider a gtx card for gaming?

My Rig-
i7 2600k @ 4.5 with h70
8gb corsair vengance 1866mhz
corsair ax750
Asus sabertooth p67 mobo

which gtx card? the 680? for the budget that you have, go to the 7970 it has +/- the same performance and its cheaper!

If you can afford the 7970 then go for it. For gaming there is very little difference between them. With the new catalyst drivers being released the performance goes up 5% to 20% depending on the game (So ive read on a few tech sites)

I would say go for a different 7970, from what I have heard that cooler can be very noisy

Hmm, ok. My only thought is that, if AMD follow their recurring patterns, the 8000 series cards shall be out early January.
If you have to buy big now, go for a 7970. If not...i'd buy something like a cheap 7850 and sell it when the new stuff comes out.

Just a thought.

Well most 7970's are mid £350 - £400 but I just had a look and you can get an OEM 3GB 7970 for £270 :O

Edit : Well I think I know where Im buying graphics cards from now ok That same website has a Sapphire 1ghz edition 2GB for only £165 and a Gigabyte 670 Windforce for only £285

yea, its a beast website! i had a 7950 saved to my favourites but they sold out. i want an oc version, recommend me some?

A 5970 for £65 :O Wow just keep that, the 5970 even by today's standards is still an absolute beast Even when the 8000 cards come out you won't have to upgrade
