The 790i (all versions) and many 7?? series chipsets have suffered problems with video playback. From locking up during HD playback to locking playing absolutely anything.
Some have found BIOS updates helpful, some have found messing with GTLREF helpful but no surefire 100% fix has been found. The reason being the bodged chipset controller.
I'm getting peeved as its coming to prom season and I make a fair bit of dough filming them for friends. The BIOS update doesn't work for me (in fact no update has) and the GTLREF only wasted my time (but TBF the guy who recommended it was an ass).
