*Asus Z97-AR mother board
*Asus Strix 970
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Logitek web cam camera up to date drivers (video but no sound in Skype)
*Creative web cameras up to date drivers (video but no sound in Skype)
Both fully working on neighbors PC

*Cheap headset
*Hyper X Cloud 2 USB sound card (headphone works minus mic and usb sound card)
Both fully working on neighbors PC

I'm having problems with head sets and web camera microphones on my PC. I've tried everything (Lots but obviously not the right thing to fix the problem), I basically give up. I have even taken it to a repair shop and got what I think was... its too time consuming to deal with so we left it over there for a week, luckily at no charge. Even had my neighbor have a look who's a computer scientist teacher in a uni, with no luck. If there's a PC GURU somebody can point me toward who lives in South Wales... let me know so I can finally use a microphone.

Thought it was mother board so replaced, yet same problem. (Maybe two bad boards?)
I updated Realtek audio drivers on both boards but this then led to not getting any sound through my speakers, so I restored to default drivers.

Unsure if Nividia and Realtek are clashing???

Can't enable or disable Stereo mix
Can't enable or disable any playback or recording devices
Can't save any changes made to any devices in sound
Can't set up micro phone
Can't
Can't
Can't

:)

All head sets and microphones show up in recording devices when plugged in but I cant alter any settings.

Tried running trouble shooter on windows (states no audio devices.. but there are)
Tried running sound fixes on the windows web site
Tried to run a command promt refresh thingy
Tried (I think) all combinations within Realtek audio software.
Tried setting up microphone in control pannel but get No Audio Input Device Found

I turned off HD audio in bios and sofeware and just used AC97 and still not working.

I just know it will be some obvious simple and easy fix but I cant for the life of me figure out what it is...

Any help would be much appreciated... somebody must know how to fix this!!! If you can come to my home and fix all the better, only because of all the problems that surrounds this issue.

Headsets and Web cameras both work on neighbors PC...

Also

''Stereo Mix'' is grayed out and disabled in the sound recording tab.

In device manager there is no driver for ''Stereo Mix'' in Audio inputs and out puts. Scan for hardware changes reveals nothing.

If it were me I'd do a full format reinstall do all your Windows updates first then go to the Asus website and download the latest driver sets for your motherboard install them and see if the problem still exists as it may be a corrupted Windows file giving you the issues and you will chase your tail forever and a day that way
Just back up essential things only like pics and movies not programs og game just reinstall those once you know everything is ok

It sounds (hehe pun) like the driver is faulty/not installed.

Assuming you are using Windows, goto control panel->device manager. Check under sound and also under unknown devices. If the card shows under unknown devices, go into it and update the driver (double click->driver tab->update driver. Otherwise, you may need to uninstall the driver to reinstall. This is where it can be tricky. Depending on how it was installed, you may mneed to go to programs and uninstall the driver, or you may just need to remove the device directly from device manager.

Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Edit: Excalaburs suggestion would basically be an extreme version of the same thing, with a benefit of cleaning out anything else that might also be dodgy. Personally, i would use it as a plan B, but that is just because i like to try and figure this stuff out.
