670 vs 680

So I was planning on getting the 4gb gtx 680 when it came out for $630. But now it looks like the 670 is just about as good for way cheaper. According to another review site 2x 670s are about the same performance as a 690 for $200 less. So should I spend 630 on a 4g 680 or get two reference 670s for $800k. Only 170 more but I'm still stuck with 2gb of ram.

Is buying a 680 instead if a 670 now the same as the silly people that buy the extreme Intel cpus?

Imo there's no point buying a 680 now, the 670 is so close to its performance it's unreal. The question is though, do you need 4GB of Vram? If you're running multiple monitors then maybe (triple screens most likely yes, dual probably not)

Depends on how may screens you run, the 680 is better for more than one screen and higher resolutions and will clock higher than a 670. For a single screen a 670 all the way though but defo get the 4gb version if you can stretch to it for future proofing, 2gb might be good enough now but might not be in 6 months time.

id go with 670 sli, and you will never use even 2gb on a single display even on 2560x1600

You will in BF3.

People seem to be forgetting that consoles go DX11 this year so even console ports will become more vram demanding and PC optimized games even more. This wont happen strait away but will over time and getting a card with more vram now is better.

Yeah i know talking about future proofing graphics cards sounds silly. But for me its an actuality. Whenever I get a new card my living room computer gets my old card and my dad gets the card out of that one. And so on. Didn't even notice they were releasing 4gb 670s. So it sounds like a no brainer. 2 4gb 670s are still silly cheap compared to other options.

To be honest I feel a little bit underwhelmed by all these reviews which don't do a full overclocking comparison. These latest Gen cards are such effective clockers that stock runs only tell half the story.

I await ttl's review to get the final results in. I expect it to challenge the 680 OC results but I would need it to do better than that since a 7950 OC is already that powerful and a sub £300 card too.

People need to be overclocking all these cards - I think they are underclocked too far at reference and why the branded cards are only adding 50mhz not 250mhz or more is beyond me. I think nvidia have stolen a trick here over AMD with turbos but they need to be stretched further.

The top single gpu cards this gen are pointless as the second one down is very close and much cheaper. This is the same with the AMD cards as well. Dunno why the companies do that?

because they get to charge a lot more for the very top card. and because there is a top card people with money will always want the best. regardless of price/performance ratio.

most got them because 670's weren't available then

+ ime guessing ur talking overclocking wise ?

Well yeah but does that really matter, your not really going to notice that when it comes to games and also going by the capitals im guessing you were not happy with what I said? If that is the case then I am sorry
