i am buying a bundle of things to add to my system tommorow. one of the things i wanted was a msi 580 lightning extreme edition. but all the websites that sell it suddenly seem to have gone out of stock. i need to get a new card and i was looking into the Gainward Phantom 580 with 3gb vid ram. can someone help me as i need to find a card by tommorow morning to make my order. i am limited to 500 and want an nvidia card. thanks

p.s. im also looking for somewere that sells phanteks PH-TC14PE, if anyone knows of a shop based in the uk please tell me

The Gigabyte GTX 580 Super Overclocked edition has a slightly higher overclock but in performance terms they are very similar. Mostly 1 to 2 fps difference in some games.

I don't think the Phantek cooler is out yet as far as I know.

ive just been reading up on gaphics cards and what benefits what. im using 1 1080p monitor so as far as i can tell the 3gb card wont acrtually benefit me.

1.5Gb is enough for 1080p dude. Tom's reviewing the Gigabyte gtx 580 soc in a bit, so if you can wait for that then you will see how good it is. I have one and I am super impressed with it

Maybe you should also have a look at the Kfa2 gtx580 anarchy.

Its silent and the arctic cooler hold temps very low for a gtx580.

I use a Gigabyte GTX 580 SOC so i'll look forward to Toms review. Sometimes i think i should've got a lightning, i heard it runs a bit cooler, i'll let Toms review tell me. But the only upgrade i will be doing anytime will be an SLI of the same card.

Other reviews show that the lightning runs a few degrees cooler, but the Gigabyte 580 is quieter. In price/performance terms they are very similar so you can't go wrong with either

Yeah it is very quiet, even when gaming and pushing the fans to 100% it doesn't seem to overpower the sound of whatever i am playing.

I would be tempted on the gainward phantom could always go for the 1.5gb version?

but if your looking to overclock i reckon the msi lightning or asus matrix or gigabyte soc would be the better bets

msi lightning for sure, dw about the extreme only difference is the ram and that cooler that turns white,

ive got 2 lightnings in sli and its just heaven mate

He can't find the normal one in stock anywhere, which is why he started this thread

. He wants a similar card (probably in terms of clock speed, memory speed, etc).

Asus cards also have out the box huge overvolt headroom - which makes a major difference.

If you're not fussed for overclocking though then I'd say the SOC looks better than the Lightning; SOC = aggressive look, Lightning = sleek look

well ive take my lightnings to 1109(lucky chips) on the core, good luck getting an asus to that. honestly I think just get the extreme
