4gb GTX 680's appearing

Pricing on that will drop in a couple of months surely, this is just as they are released.

I agree, but even so - if people have been waiting for the "over 2gb version" and it's marketed at this price, they'll most likely be disappointed to find it's out of their planned budget and get a more reasonable card for the money.

It is absolutely astronomical pricing for a single GPU card - imo.

(for that price, I'd want it to clear the competing cards by at least 10-15% in most scenarios)

I'll give it 6 months and see what happens price wise. I'd like to pick two up and go SLI but I'll wait, not like they are going to increase in price

that price stings, I am curious to see what the prices drop too, hopefully to something remotely affordable lol

Though I;m probably jsut going to get another 7970 and watercool those things and clock them to the highest thing I can

They're priced as niche cards. You can expect £50 to come off over time, but I'd not see anything more than that.

There's very little out there that demands more than 2g for gaming. And to be fair, those that demand more than 2g or 3g for their 1 or 2 games experience on their 2 or 3 screen setups shouldn't exactly be waived by the prices as they're used to shelling out for other hardware. Likelihood is the same people may have x79, 32g, extreme cpu, raid 0 500g ssd, setups just for gaming. £1000 for sli isn't going to phase them. Probably get dual water block setups for them despite the 3rd party coolers, even ones sold with blocks for £150 more.

hehe cheaper than a Mars.. just.

Well I am one of those people who will spend 1000's on my pc for as high a spec as I can get at the time, and all I do is game on mine with the occasional video converting of game videos for youtube which I only do because a few people, I work with like to see me pwn people lol.

The 4gb card's are just to high of a price for me given I use a single monitor at the moment, would rather buy another GTX 680 2gb card and SLI them to get better performance than a single GTX 680 4gb card.

Er nope. Type of people I'm talking about would just buy it without thinking of what you're thinking.

You can see my specs in my sig and I have three 30" 2560x1600 monitors I use in NVIDIA Surround. I do want these 4GB cards but not at these retail prices. I'm happy to wait or even skip this generation. There is the best and then there is just throwing money away. To me the HD 7970's with 3GB of memory would be a better buy than these right now.

What was the price difference between the 1.5g 580 and the non-reference, let's keep in mind these are non-reference, 3g 580 when they came out ?

Oh and ..

What games do you want to see specifically? I can tell you already that I can't play many games on maximum settings at 8120x1600 (my resolution with bezel compensation activated) as I run out of Video Memory. Battlefield 3 is the game I'd really like to play maxed out across all three screens but with only 1.5GB of video memory I can either play it maxed out on one screen (Without a lot of AA/AF though) or on low to medium settings across all three displays. This is my main reason for wanting more than 2GB of Video Memory. But I don't need 4GB. I'd say 3GB would be enough for me.

Any, all and everything

Your most demanding hopefully. Want to see some of this 8120x1600 pr0n !

Legend currently has it that you won't (shouldn't) run out of memory as since Vista, Windows will allow your computer to use onboard memory.

However, this is a legend based on fables. You could also say that, because of an older mindset, some game engine programmers incorrectly have their game check for how much vram you have and limit your selections. This is where .ini hacks come in. Yuck !

My jaw just hit the floor

(in a OMG, shocked way)

These prices are insane!!

If the 4GB version cost this much, i'd say the dual cards will be around the £780 mark, that's my guess anyway.

I guess when i go to the states this year, i'll stick with either the 580 or 680 2GB version, i have no need for 4GB now and most definitely will never need for gaming anytime soon
