GTX780TI or GTX970/980

I had recently (2 weeks ago) got myself a Graphics Card (MATRIX-GTX780TI-P-3GD5)for a new build I am currently in the progress of building and I haven't even taken it out of the box yet so I still have time to return it and I did pay a pretty hefty price £520.

I am just wondering should I send it back and then by myself either a GTX970 or GTX980?.

I currently have these components for my new build if any of this will make a difference towards which one I buy.

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150

Asus Maximus VII Formula Intel Z97

Avexir Core Blue Series 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz

Thanks Dani

That is a very good question....
I was in a similar situation where i ordered a egva 780ti acx dual classified beginning of the week.
I installed it thursday and had a play with the Rog swift and the 780ti and it was awesome!
But yesterday after looking up benchmarks on the 980 i had changed my mind so i returned the 780ti and getting a 980 on the basis the performance is very similar between the 780ti and 980 with a few FPS either way and 3gb vs 4gb VRAM but with the 980 your saving nearly £100 and using much less power.
So personally id return the 780ti save £100 and get a 980 or even wait and see what after market coolers get released for example the Egva ACX 2.0. But its totally up to you :)

If you want more memory, the EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN Black with G-Sync Support has 6 gb so you could double yours.

If you've already got the 780 Ti there is no point in switching to the 980 apart from power saving.

that, and the over £100 cost saving, if he has not finished the build yet he can afford to go without a card untill the 980 arrives. like all the reviewers say, the 980 is silent, very cool, low power, cheap(ish) and fast as fook

He's already said that he bought it 2 weeks ago :)

and that he has not removed it from the packaging, and still has a window to return it

It's really not worth the trouble of returning it, If you're super green and need to hug a tree then yeah sure but otherwise just no ^_^

but even so, the benefits of the newer card, plus the money back would defo make it worth doing, £100 cheaper... gotta have too much money to throw it away

It's not throwing the money away though is it, The Matrix card which he bought is a beast of an overclocker and one of the best 780 Ti's on the planet, Looks wise it looks amazing which is also one of the things you're paying for with it not just the performance, The aesthetics come into it as well.

I think its worth returning for the 780ti purely as the 980 saves you £100 you get 4gb VRAM and less power draw.
Ive just built a new rig and ive had a egva 780ti dual classified for one day before the 980 release and decided to return the 780ti as im in no rush and would rather save £100+ and power consumption and wait a week. But thats just my opinion :)

After looking around on the net for the majority of the day and looking at lots of other peoples queries I think I'm just going to stick with my 780TI for the next 6+ months and see what 980's release in that time window since there is bound to have been many released with aftermarket coolers or even water cooing as an option by then.

As for DX12 I cannot see there being any really demanding games that are going to be released any time soon which will support that in the next couple of months anyway so I am not too concerned.

I had also already looked at the Titans before going with 780TI it just did not seem there was enough justice in getting one of those for the price unless I was going to go with SLI.

My 2p worth - if I was in your position and had a brand new unopened card that I could return with no hassle and get a full refund, and then spend less money on a faster card with more memory and newer technology that would also save me money on the power bill, then I'd be a fool to consider sticking to what I already had. All IMHO only.
