So im looking at either the 4870 x2 or the evga 285 2gb or the 4890? which do you guys think is the better buy? the 4890 running in crossfire beat the 285 1gb so how would the 285 2g do?

also if i get the 285 ill eventually run it in sli so then the card will mop the floor with the 4890 but the price will be nearly doubled?

and hows the 4870 x2 compared to the 4890?

2x 4770 are better than 1x4890

but considering 4890's can be had for less than £140 a pair of them will be awesome for gaming.

What you need to consider is the resolution you game/what games you play and the spec of the rest of your system.

285 all the way.

Was going to comment on 2g, but I've recently found setting up GTAIV that I can only use half the viewing distance with 1g.

i was leaning more for the 285 2g as it almost as good as the 4890 in crossfire in the benchmark i saw for them and when i get the 2nd one it will blow away the 4770 or the 4870 x2 and 2 4890's so i think for future proofing my rig it would be the most effective and because ill be wc my build i wont have to buy new blocks when the 4770 or the rest of the ati cards arent powerful enough? what do you guys think?

Powerful enough for what ?

I mean it's one thing to get artificial benchmarking scores, but when it comes to playing games that don't appreciate sli or xfire, the time has been wasted.

If any1 just wants the best benchmark results, I'd recommend sli/xfire. If u want actual gaming performance with quality that's consistent game to game, I'd go with the best single gpu card.

Either go for Vapor-X 4890 2GB or 285 2GB, it has to have at least 2gb, we'll be seeing some even more demanding titles soon ;)
